In this episode, we will learn how to add row specific reminders to our
charts.
Ever wish you could be reminded to do something when you
move to a specific row of the chart?
Maybe change needle sizes
change yarn,
or even get special instructions about knitting something tricky on that
particular row?
knitCompanion provides just this type of reminder.
It can be a visual reminder,
audible reminder
or both.
You can add these reminders to any visible row of your chart and they will
appear in the multifunction window as you move to that row.
As you can see here,
when I move
from row 19
to row 20
my view changes to remind me to change needle sizes.
If I so desired,
I could also receive an audible reminder in case I was not watching the
screen closely.
Reminders are easy to set up.
From the setup page
tap to edit the chart piece.
At the bottom,
locate the button for row text.
Tap it and you are brought to the screen for adding reminders.
Here you see each row of the chart.
There is a column to the left
for row text.
Row text is where you can add a reminder that comes directly from the PDF,
see you don't need to type it in.
There is also a column to the right for row media.
This is where you can type your own notes
that may not be specifically stated in the PDF.
And using row media,
you can also add your own audible reminders.
As you can see,
each row could have one or both types of reminders.
Let's make a new row text.
First
tap the green plus
and select new row text.
Pick the page of the PDF
you want to use for your reminder
and tap select.
Crop the information you would like
and tap save.
Notice that you can add highlights,
annotations
and additional images if you would like.
Tap the breadcrumb to return to the row text list.
You edit your new row text by tapping on the blue edit button and delete it as
well.
You can also copy your row text to additional rows as needed.
Now let's make a new row media.
First tap the green plus and select new row media.
Here you can type a note to yourself.
If you would like to define an audio reminder,
tap choose.
Either pick an existing clip
or record a new one.
To pick an existing clip,
just tap to select the clip
and tap choose.
To record and new clip,
tap new,
name your clip
and tap continue.
When you are ready to record
tap the red report button and speak clearly to your device.
When finished tap the same button, now white and blinking.
Use the breadcrumb to return to the media list.
Tap to select your new recording and tap choose.
Nnote that you can specify if you would like this audio clip to play
automatically when you move
to the row.
By default this is set to on.
You can always use the mute audio option in preferences for public knitting
situations.
Once completed
use the breadcrumb to return to the row text list.
Again
you can delete,
edit and copy your row media
just like your row text.
Using the breadcrumb,
return to the piece page and then back to set up.
From their, return to the main knitting screen.
Test out your new row reminder.
Notice as you move through the chart, the reminder you have set appears when
you move to that row of the chart.
Happy knitting!
