Good morning.
Would you like to hear a story?
I think you certainly would, because it is a good one.
But at first, I need to introduce myself.
My name is Stefan Banach, and now, we are in the first half of XX century.
When Lvov was a part of Poland.
I'm a self-taught mathematician.
Most people say a good one.
Well, maybe they are right.
The story starts on a Sunday morning.
I was going to a mathematician meeting.
But suddenly, I met someone.
It turned out, that Olivia, cause that was her name, was going to my meeting too.
We both were late and we loved each other from the very first moment.
I was helping her with a project. But suddenly she...
Disappeared.
I couldn't understand what had happened.
I was trying to find her, but nobody knew where she was.
I thought I was the problem.
I thought she was avoiding me.
But suddenly I started noticing that a lot of people were missing.
And then I realized that it couldn't be just a coincidence.
There could be only one explanation...
Sun allergy.
But I didn't want to give up.
I took my pen and my notebook and started looking for a solution.
That's what all mathematicians do.
And I found it.
Of course, we can find and cure all sick people.
But that is not a mathematicians' way.
The main problem is the sun.
So let's do something with it.
How?
Using a geometry.
All we need to do is take some pea, chop it up and then reassemble it into the sun.
No sun.
No problem.
With my theory I could cure all sick people living in Lvov.
But at first, I need to buy some pea.
And that is how my story ends.
