This unique custom-made necklace is a noteworthy piece from a private Danville estate collection.
It contains authentic gold samples recovered from the Atocha, an infamous Spanish ship
that met its demise in 1622. Gold particles recovered from the Atocha were melted down
and blended to create this replica of a wedding chain found on the ship. Fashioned with 106
continuous, 18 karat, interlocking links, the necklace is a symbol of the unbreakable
bonds of marriage. A certificate of authentication from Shreve & Company jewelers accompanies
the neck chain, to be sold in April at an auction estimate of $3,500-4,000.
