Built in 2006, standing 5 stories tall and accommodating more than 345 residents, College Avenue is located in the southeastern part of campus, near the college of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
Hello, my name is Lisa Maida.
And I’m going to be your tour guide for College Avenue.
Now come follow me as I show you one of the newest Residence Halls on campus.
Hey! My name’s Lisa. I’m touring the Residence Halls. Is there any way I can check out a room?
Yeah. My name’s TJ here, the College Ave. DA. Maybe Claire can assist you with that.
Awesome! Thank you.
You’re welcome.
Hi!
…and some journalism students, too. Um, I know these students here so we’ll kind of give you a little tour of the room.
Awesome.
K. We’ll see if they’re here.
Hey guys!
Hi!
Yeah, I was going to see if you guys knew about the Homecoming Barbeque? It’s on Sunday.
Oh, we’re totally going.
Cool. Excellent. Well, this is Lisa. She’s taking a tour of College Ave. So, could we take a look at your room?
Yeah! Come on in!
I like the room. I love our room. You’re able to like, reinvent it, and like make it your own. And it looks, it reminds you of home and stuff.
Yeah. It’s so funny to see other people’s rooms ‘cause they’re like completely different. Like color, the way they put everything.
And everyone’s really fun and nice. Like, we’ve met a lot of our good girlfriends, like a lot of them live down the hall. Just from, like, everyone having their door open when you first meet.
Yeah, everyone when you first move in here, definitely leave your door open.
Yeah, we didn’t for the first few days. But then…
We were like ‘Everyone has their door open’ so we should. And that’s how you meet people.
We’ve been to the ice cream social here.
That was fun, yeah. You got your spoon, and your bowl, and your ice cream, and your toppings… And you, like, voted for the Hall President.
Here we always have free Buffalo Wild Wings and free Jimmy John’s, and it’s awesome.
Like every week there’s like something free.
Well thank you so much for showing me the room. This was really helpful. I hope you guys have a great semester.
Good luck, and we’ll be seeing you around on campus.
Thanks you too! Bye guys!
A lot of our events have become traditional. Uh, Pizza and Politics. Noodles and News. Uh, Newsy Night.
Um, trips to Jefferson City to view the capital and try to meet with some of the representatives from states down there.
Uh, those have all become traditional events within the hall. As our students have gone out as the years progress.
We have had students come back and want to partake and word of mouth has really helped spread that we have students coming from other communities.
They will come in and say “Hey, we’re here for this other event.” And I’m like, “Oh, great! Where’re you from?”
And they’ll say, “Oh, I live in Hatch Hall.” “Or, I live in McDavid Hall. I live in Mark Twain.” And I say, “Oh, that’s wonderful! Come on upstairs.”
Some of the things that College Avenue holds may be overlooked if you just taken a glance.
For example, did you know that there’s a piano room in the building?
Located near the Hall Coordinator’s office and just down the hall from the front desk, you’ll be able to get your Mozart on.
Something that you can’t really miss if you enter the hall from the northeast side is the Giant Aquarium.
No. I’m not talking about a fish tank. It’s the hall lounge.
Located on the ground floor you’ll find tons of open space, a nice view of Dairy Lawn, and a ginormous television.
Through the year, you’ll find a lot of hall activities and events taking place here.
Connected to the aquarium is the hall kitchen. And just a hop away from that is the laundry room.
Between the kitchen and the laundry room is the study room that has the hall printer where you can print out class assignments and what not.
Did I mention that living in College Avenue is SUITE?
No really, it is. There are two types of suit-style rooms in college Avenue which is a double-suite and a four person single-suite.
The double is one shared by two residents joined to another by a bathroom.
And the single suite are four different rooms joined together by a bathroom and common entry space.
All of the residents’ rooms are electronic card swipe meaning you’ll have to stop by the desk kiosk machine to encode or update your student ID to gain access to your room.
Well thanks for showing me around, Claire.
It was really nice to meet you.
Oh, sure! Stop by anytime.
And I want to thank you for following me on this tour.
I hope I’ve been able to answer some of your questions.
