In this tutorial we will see how the characters can be animated in Inscape,
to walk along paths,
to play motion captured animations,
to look at some direction or to carry objects.
Open the project of this tutorial using the help menu.
Here is a city environment with some characters imported from the entity library.
Double click the Simulation entity and Synapse will open its graph.
Go to the Task Library and drag and drop the Animation / Character / Play Motion task.
Set the loop parameter to True, the motion to Motions / loiter4.VMH
and set the subject by clicking the blond woman.
Check the Auto start option.
Copy and paste the task using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V shortcuts and select Share.
On the new task, set the subject by clicking the man with the hat
and the motion to Motions / loiter_tense_loop.VMH
Copy and paste the task again for the brown woman and use the Motions / loiter2.VMH file this time.
Copy and paste the task again for the young girl behind and use the Motions / loiter3.VMH file.
Select the young girl and set the LookAt attribute by clicking the bird on the pedestal.
To add a briefcase model,
go to the file explorer in the Data folder.
It is located at Models / Briefcase / briefcase.v3b
Drag and drop the file on the left hand of the man and create a 3D Model entity.
Select the man and set the LeftHandObject attribute by clicking the briefcase.
Press F6 to test the result: here is a first animated group of characters
To make a character moves, click the Create Path button and draw the path by clicking on the scene to add waypoints.
Right-click to finish the path edition, select the waypoints you want to edit or delete and use to Manipulate mode to move them.
Go to the Task Library and drag and drop the Animation / Character / Follow Path with Motion task.
Set the Motion to Motions / run_footsteps.VMH, the Path by clicking the Path01 entity on the project view,
set the subject by clicking the kid and the UseMotionSpeed to True.
Check the Auto start option and link the Done output to the Restart input to loop the task.
Click the Create Path button and draw a path along the dock.
Copy and paste the Follow Path with Motion task.
On the new task, set the Motion to Motions / walk_footsteps.VMH,
the path by clicking the Path02 entity on the project view
and the subject by clicking the man on the dock.
Press F5 to play and feel free to animate the other characters to make the place even more alive!
