After three weeks of interviews, the Taiwanese company Toro,
experts on mobile payment, has recruited a team of
ten informatics and telecom engineers, most of them from Catalonia.
-I wasn't originally looking for a job, but open to different laboral perspectives
then this specific oportunity came across, which is interesting, for an engineer looking for a job
or for an entrepreneur trying to integrate in the team
-I was looking for a vital experience, but I also think it is a qualitative step
at professional level, to be able to evolve, and to program for mobile applications
They were requested immediate disponibility to travel to Taiwan
for the training process, as well as a good level in English,
and Toro was surprised of the high amount of curricula received
-I was expecting more junior levels, more fresh graduate candidates,
but I received many CVs of people with a broad academic background and experience.
Even 40 year old people with a living in Barcelona or in Spain.
This team will be responsible for the research and development
for mobile applications to use the smartphone as a digital wallet,
and will lead the European projects.
Actually it was a project in Poland what pushed Toro
to open an office in Europe, and Barcelona won against a French option.
-And in the end we chose Barcelona because of the Mobile World Capital
because we were about to sign with offices in Nice,
but we saw two problems:
in Nice it was hard to recruit people,
and the costs were higher and there wasn't this focus
into the mobile brought by the Mobile World Capital
Barcelona being the capital of the mobile technologies until 2018
is attracting companies that research in this sector,
to be in permanent collaboration with enterprises and institutions.
Inside the mobile payment field, the Taiwanese company Toro
will come back to start working here in January, but before
in September, the multinational NXP, leader in this sector,
is installing also a knowledge center in Barcelona.
