>> Rep McNamar thank you for joining us. >> thank you.
>> can you describe your district and tell us what ways you and your district are similar
at? >> my district is rural. My district is in
the center of the state on the western side I have probably the most rural district you
can imagine. I was born and raised in western Minnesota in a rural area and my wife's parents
formed and my stepdad farmed we were pretty much similar.
>> what is your occupation outside the Legislature? >> I'm retired but I was a former schoolteacher
I taught school for 38 years and I'm proud to say that.
>> what did you teach? >> if pop Life Sciences health physical education
UNIMIN I taught it. >> what grades?
>> That is a good question because I taught all away from kindergarten kids all the way
up to seniors and when you teach for 38 years you have a very demotic things you can do
and because of that because of a variety attempted interesting to me all the time. I agree career.
>> legislation have you worked on in the past that you are most proud of?
>> Right now master for sure this the first bill I had that was turned into a lot it was
the case bill turned in a lot in the state last year was the legislation dealing with
magnetic imaging for critical access hospitals and allow them to not have to go through an
expensive licensing process so we reverted back to the old way we had and what that visit
helped every critical access hospital in the state. The other thing we did is we got raises
for nursing-home employs when batteries for four years and that helped every nursing home
employed in the state that I could think of. I was a former mayor before I came in and
one of the reasons I ran was to get local government aid back to cities and we got it
not only for the cities are we got $80 million for cities and $40 million for counties and
$10 million for townships unbelievable also I ran to pay back the schools and a are paid
back. >> what is the most difficult aspect of being
a legislator? >> the most difficult thing is trying to help
everybody in your district. That's a big thing for me and it is sometimes can't help everybody
and I wish I could this past week we had a severe problem with propane shortages in our
western Minnesota area and in the metropolitan area you have mostly natural gas. At a lot
of our people in western Minnesota Half propane for heat and what is happening is the price
of propane went up from a $55 a gallon from a year ago to up to $6.75 a gallon and that
puts severe problems on everyone elderly especially. Low-income families, farmers, and it is a
drain it and I'm so proud of governor Dayton for declaring a peaceful state of emergency
trying to help solve the situation. I'm concerned about our elderly our elderly especially in
western Minnesota are extremely proud and they're the ones who will not seek assistance
if they can possibly help it. They will go ashore themselves on food assure themselves
on medication to make sure the bills are paid. The assistance is there for everybody I especially
now when the prices have jumped so high and we can allow this to happen again we have
to do something about it and I'm concerned about it happening again next year. We need
to be prepared and presented. >> what are your hidden talent for hobbies?
>> I like to write and no one knows this, maybe I've told this to you before I've written
a novella and when I was a teacher we still have called accelerated reader and my home
is based students the students I was directly underneath we did like to read so we would
take and read a book in my class every nine weeks and it what I've done this several Nobel
which is a short story for the grade students and I'm gonna have it evaluated some day and
like to have it published and if I could tell you is good. . .
