Facebook users help cops catch criminals. Did Charlie Dooley really use f-bombs to get
campaign donations? And what to do if you lose a pup in the STL?
That and more today in The Sift. Welcome to The Sift.
I’m Gabrielle Biondo, filtering through some of the most talked-about stories in St.
Louis. So we are not the only ones who love Facebook.
Police love it too. As the Riverfront Times reports, they're using
it to catch criminals. Most recently, police searched for this lovely
couple, who they say beat the man’s 87-year-old grandmother for money, then went on the run.
So...police posted their pics on Facebook. People shared the photos hundreds of times
and posted tips, helping cops catch the parolee and his gal pal before they left town.
From crime to politics, awkward and intimidating is how a recent speech by St. Louis County
Executive Charlie Dooley is being described. Get this, KMOX reports that Dooley delivered
a profanity-laced speech against his political opponents, followed by a request for his audience
of county employees to donate one percent of their salaries to his campaign.
Those at the meeting describe the speech as “surreal, shocking and unhinged.”
This all apparently happened during a closed-door, mandatory campaign meeting in front of about
50 people. We’ll keep an eye on developments with this
situation, because KMOX’s report cites anonymous sources and had no response from Dooley.
And St. Louis city parking is finally moving into the new millennium, which is cool because
i don’t normally carry a pocket full of quarters.
FOX 2 says new, high-tech parking meters are being tested downtown and in the Central West
End. You enter your space number into the machine
and pay with coins, credit cards and ultimately our phones.
However, I guarantee I will end up behind that one guy who is completely confused by
these new machines and enjoy a 15 minute parking debacle.
Or maybe i’ll be the guy creating the confusion. Hey!! Have a few minutes.. or a truck...to
help out a local charity? KMOX reports the closure of the Millennium
Hotel downtown is a blessing for Oasis International Ministries.
They’ve been offered some of the furniture to give to refugees from war- torn countries,
but need volunteers and large trucks to help move the donated items.
And great news for this lucky pup, who’s microchip helped reunite him with his owner
after he was found wandering in the shaw neighborhood Sunday.
Did you know there’s actually a lost dog online network in St. Louis to help missing
pets and their people reunite? You can use @stllostpets on twitter, or visit
stllostpets.org. I love that!
Hey! Don’t forget to follow RealTimeSTL on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and YouTube.
We leave you with this St. Louis meta moment: Mittens are just cool on so many levels.
