Welcome to Values Quotes. I'm Robert Ferguson. Todays quote is from Andrew Murray, a South
African writer, teacher, and Christian pastor. A thoughtful quote from Murray is:
"It has been well said: no man can expect to make progress in holiness who is not often
and long alone with God." Wise words from a wise man.
As a differentiating value, Holiness means purity; dedicated to a religious purpose;
or associated with a divine power. Let's be clear: the source of all holiness
is God. So if you want to increase in this value, Murray's recommendation makes perfect
sense. You must spend more time with God. But how to do that? Here are 3 ways:
#1. Read the Bible -- the more you read God's word, the more you'll come to know what really
matters to Him. #2. Prayer -- the more you pour out your heart
to God, the more you'll come to know what needs to change within you.
#3. Solitude -- the more time you spend quietly listening to God, the more you'll come to
know what He would do through you. Now, if you're thinking "that's not me" or
"I couldn't do that" let me encourage you to consider something. One is not born holy
nor is suddenly holy because they choose to be. To become holy is a journey. Progress
is made step-by-step and day-by-day. In time, when you experience the purity and
power of God, and come to know His purpose for you, then you'll realize the real benefits
of seeking the value of holiness.
