Welcome to Portsmouth!
Hello
I am "Luo Wei" from London.
I study here at the University of Portsmouth.
I want to explain the differences between English and Chinese culture.
There are many Chinese people here.
I will ask them some questions.
What is the most obvious difference between China and the UK?
I think Western culture is more about the individual.
Everybody wants to be different.
It's different from Chinese culture as Chinese culture means people act more like a group.
Everybody is the same.
English culture is more free and more individual.
The pace of Chinese life is fast, here it's slow.
English festivals are more lively.
English people enjoy being lively.
When you use English do you encounter any difficulties?
Yes I have difficulty.
For example when I go shopping.
The biggest difficulty is...
The first time I came to the UK my biggest problem was...
when people talk too fast
So I can't understand them.
Is English food good?
No
English chocolate is my favourite.
And chocolate cake...
So I think English food is good.
I like to eat English breakfast...
and English roasts.
Overall it's pretty okay.
Do you understand English humour?
English humour...
English humour...
English people don't like to make jokes with Chinese people.
I sometimes understand English humour...
A little... I often don't understand.
According to the research...
I have come to realise that Chinese and English culture are completely different.
The biggest differences perhaps lie in food, humour and cultural festivals.
What do you think?
Thank you and good bye!
