Inspiration Day April 2012
The challenge in IBM i™
One man - an entire ERP Solution and 10.000 part numbers
Today is a milestone to System & Method.
This is the day we tie the knot on all our products
and get to see the big picture in what we have been doing the last several years.
Therefore it is really exciting for us to stand here and be able to show this to you
and it is even more exciting for us
because we see that here you have an opportunity to modernize your 5250 solution
or your solution running on your AS400 today.
We are really excited about how you will receive this
and we are really excited to present this product that does not require an AS400
but requires that you have an iPad or another tablet computer.
A customer asked me why I wrote in the invitation
that you can get a graphical user interface in only one day.
He could not believe it was possible and asked if I could explain it to him.
I said: "It is quite simple.
It will only take one day to implement
because we have already spent 4250 hours on developing IceCap
and 5350 hours on developing IceBreak since year 2004.
So all that is left is the implementing part,
which we can do in a day."
Now, some of you may think:
"When you have spend so many hours, then how can you make a profit on it?"
We believe we can.
There is a big world out there,
AS400 is a great machine,
and there are many people who use it around the globe.
But it takes a little more than just the Danish customers buying our products.
So we intend to rush ahead on the world market with these products
now that we have tied the knot on it all.
At the same time I would like to say
that it is also a tribute to the AS400 platform on our part
that we have spend so many development hours
to ensure the future of this amazing platform.
And although the AS400 platform has many names
we allow ourselves to call it AS400
because to us an AS400 will always be an AS400
and that is what the customers call it too.
I want to tell you a little story from real life.
Earlier this month we were out at the IT University of Copenhagen
at something called "IT matchmaking",
which is about businesses wanting to help the students by teaching them about business
and in return, the businesses might meet some potential employees.
Our world has changed radically since we began creating graphical solutions
so in the front-end we are looking for young, bright people who are able to create these solutions
and in the back-end, we use the good, experienced programmers on AS400 for development.
Therefore we were looking for some front-end developers at the university
but these students could not help asking:
"What kind of a back-end are you running with?"
And then I had to start by saying:
"You do not know it.
It is a great platform.
It can do anything.
It can run with a 10-user solution up to a 10,000-user solution.
But you have not heard of it."
And then these people at the IT University said:
"Arh, this is an university, located in the capital of Denmark.
We know what is going on so tell us something more, we must know it."
When I told them what it can do, they asked:
"But how many platforms do you need to cope with 10,000 users?"
I said: "One."
And their respond was: "It cannot be true. That, I would like to see."
