Can I have the definition please? Excessive unbridled enthusiasm or attachment. Can you
use it in a sentence please? The arrival of Dr. Edlow's cowbell solo always elicited tremendous
schwarmerei from the crowd. Are there any alternate pronunciations? There's a slight
variant, schwarmerei and schwarmerei. Schwarmerei? Can I have the part of speech please? Noun.
Can I have the origin? German. The spelling is a little different than what you'd expect
for a German word with that sound, but I think she's familiar with it. Can I have the pronunciations
again please? Schwarmerei and schwarmerei. Schwarmerei? That first vowel sound could
be the spot where she has trouble. Can I have the definition again please? Excessive unbridled
enthusiasm or attachment. *ding* Do you see the clock? Schwarmerei. S-C-H-W-E-R-M-E-R-E-I?
Schwarmerei? *bell rings* *groans from the audience* Schwarmerei is spelled S-C-H-W-A-R-M-E-R-E-I.
Thank you. She is such a phonetic speller she thought it sounded German and should be
schwarmerei! But it's truly German there and that threw her... And now the situation - Snigdha
got a word right this round but Stuti has missed so now Snigdha gets a word here and
if she gets it right, she will be our 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion. *inaudible voices* Guetapens. Guetapens? This
is French? It's from French. Guetapens. Can I have the definition please? An ambush, snare,
or trap. Guetapens. May I have the part of speech please? A noun. Is it singular or plural?
It's a singular noun. Guetapens. May I have it in a sentence please? Matthew and Alexander's

do you love us?" Guetapens. Guetapens. G-U-E-T-A-P-E-N-S. Guetapens? *applause* And guess what? We have
the champion of the 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee - Snigdha Nandipati! And there's
her little brother, coming racing up from the crowd. *drowned out speech* I don't think
she realized she was the champion until the confetti started flying! And look at her now,
what a great job. And that family investment, her father wrote a computer program for words
for her to study, spent a bunch of money to ... it all off down at the store and now all that
hard work and investment has paid off. What a terrific moment for Snigdha Nandipati. And
it's interesting because she has a role model, her father... the 2009 winner, Kavya kept...
*speech drowned out* Stuti Mishra was amazing. I don't know if anyone was expecting her to
win, but she was all for it and did a terrific job, and really, went out on a stinker of
a word that didn't stay true to form, pretty obvious competition. *drowned speech* Yes
I am with the champion, congratulations, Snigdha, come on over, closer, sorry I'm looking the
wrong way, come on over get close to your trophy! All right, and the president and CEO
of the E. W. Scripps Company, Richard Boehne is here to present your trophy. Snigdha, on
behalf of all of us at Scripps, it's our honor and thrill to declare you champion of the
2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Congratulations! *applause* Maybe hand it over to dad, your
arms are probably getting tired! Your brother wants a piece of it, doesn't he? Her grandfather
said he would take her to India if she won. Alright, maybe hand it over to dad for a second
so your arms don't fall off. Alright, Snigdha, tell me what you thought when you first heard
your final word. Guetapens - umm... I knew it. I'd seen it before. Um, I just wanted
to ask everything I could before I started spelling. It seemed like you weren't even
sure you'd actually won. Now that you know this is actually happening, how do you feel?
I feel hysterical. What do you want all of America to know about what it takes to be
the best speller in the country? A lot. Well, that pretty much wraps
it up. Congratulations, Snigdha, go enjoy this moment. *loud applause* *drowned out
speech* 14-year-old from San Diego, CA *drowned out speech* Congrats to Snigdha. *applause*
Can I have the spelling please? *ding*
