We have a team of eight students that are combined electrical and mechnical engineers.
It's a multidisciplinary project that we've been working on here.
It's going to be a hybrid, essentialy.
We're not doing the regular SAE project.
It's going to be an electric motor and smaller internal combustion engine.
What's special about this car is that is focusing on renewable energy
because right now that is one of the main topics.
We're running out of oil. It's plain and simple.
We have to figure out different ways to power vehicles.
So, by having students focus on renewable energy
and getting their thinking guided towards that,
I think we'll really help out the future.
There's two portions to the race.
You have a drag race, which basically determines the acceleration of the vehicle.
Then there's an endurance race where there's actually two drivers.
You actually have to switch drivers mid-race.
It's just basically for distance, for fuel effeciency.
It's where you get most of the points for the competition since it is a hybrid.
So, it's not necessarily, per se a race.
It's more say, get to the finish line and do it in the most economical way.
So, that's what we're planning on doing.
