Hi there. Mark O'Connor here, Blended Learning Designer at the
School of Science and Health.
I wanted to share a quick tip video with you on recording "Selfies" using the
headset that you would have received with your mobile phone.
So, I bought a Nokia not so long ago and this is the headset that shipped
with it and it has got a connector like this with three parts
2 for the left and right speakers of your headphones and one
for your microphone. So when you plug this guy
into an iPhone or an iPad as I'm about to do now
your iPad will automatically know to switch over
to this microphone and turn off the inbuilt microphone which is of course here
and if I tap the side there it is no longer the inbuilt mic.
It is now this guy.
So then I can take this guy and stick it on to my
shirt here. It doesn't look too visually displeasing...
and as I am recording a 'Selfy' I should always remember to not look at
myself but also look at the lens
and keep talking to the folks that are looking at this. Namely you.
So as you can see the sound quality is that bit better.
Why is that? It's because we're closer to the sound source.
This is a pretty basic mic
but you can see by good mic location that you get
much better results. I am also keeping in mind to
keep the background my video here
is quite basic and I'm using moviemount, that app
which has a white balance and an auto-exposure feature.
Just before I finish, I'm going to give you look at an iPad/iPhone
set of headphones and we'll plug this out again
and we're back to the iPad Mike there now. You can probably hear the room moreso
with the microphone being further away from my sound source but if I put the sound source
right close to the mic you can see the difference there aswell. So finally
the iPhone headphones which Jo Holland kindly donated to me
and you can see the quality there. So if I was to use these like so, I could
probably just prop it up there. And we'd be fine.
Alright, I thought I'd share that with you all. I hope this has been helpful.
keep on the keeping 'Splendid' and 'Blended'.
Alright, thanks, bye!
