Since I am going to be installing the brackets through this piece of wood which is trimmed,
behind that there is a stud that we will get into but we do have trim work we are going
through and I am nervous about cracking the wood. So I am going to go ahead and pre-drill
the hole. What you want to look for is you find the screw that you are going to be using
to install a bracket with and you want to get a drill bit that is somewhere between
a half and ¾, the diameter of the screw. You don't want to make your hole too big obviously.
You can go small depending on how worried you are that you have fragile wood. If you
are not too worried that it is fragile, you can even go smaller and this will ensure a
secure hold of the screw. So this wood I happen to know is not pure split wood. It is actually
a pressed wood so it is probably not going to splinter real bad so I am going to go ahead
and use one about half the size rather than this one that is closer to ¾ the size.
