I’m Rich Funke and Today, I am proud to announce our 2016 Woman of Distinction in
the 55th State Senate District. It’s very difficult to select just one person with so
many women in our area making contributions that enrich the quality of life of others.
But this year’s honoree is truly special. Bonnie Ross retired from a very successful
career at Thompson Health. But thankfully she never lost her desire to help others in
the community. After joining the partnership for Ontario County as a volunteer, Bonnie
is now the organization’s Executive Director. Her dedication has had a major impact on her
community.
Roll Package.
“ I am very proud of the message that we have to deliver here from the partnership,
and I am so honored to be able to do it because I believe in what we are doing.”
“The reduction of substance abuse in the community…it has become rampant not only
here but across the country. We have surveyed over 200 young people about the use of drugs.
We also have educated over 2000 through forums on the *** epidemic. Most recently we had
a 1000 attendees at the Canandaigua School District.
We work with students to train them on how to be a judge, jury attorney. They hear cases
of children who have been referred to probation and if the child accepts responsibility for
what they’ve done they have an alternative and they can go through youth court, and they
are judged by a jury of their peers. If they complete whatever sentence is given to them,
then the book is closed and they don’t have a record.
The Child Advocacy Center works with children of *** physical abuse and maltreatment.
It is a very difficult thing to do.
“To receive this award and have the opportunity to talk to folks about what we do here and
the passion that we express, its like Master Card…its priceless. “
“ Good things come to the partnership because we are doing the right things.”
When you do the kind of work I do, you don’t do it for the recognition. You do it to go
home at night and to put your head on the pillow a you to say I could sleep well because
I know I did the best that I could.
Bonnie, thank you on behalf of the countless residents who benefit from services provided
by The Partnership for Ontario County. Congratulations to Bonnie Ross, our 2016 Woman of Distinction
in the 55th State Senate District. To nominate someone for next year’s award, please mail
a brief summary of their accomplishments along with their their current address and phone
number to my district office, which is at the bottom of the screen. Until Next time,
I’m Senator Rich Funke.
