Rachel Garrahan: We're here with Raffaella Rossiello, of Chopard, to talk us through
Cate Blanchett's look and Chopard's international red carpet heritage. Raffaella, thank you
for having us; please talk us through Cate's look on the red carpet.
Raffaella Rossiello: Of course. Last night was an exceptional night, I have to say, for
Chopard. We were really very happy, especially for the incredible Cate Blanchett red carpet;
she was just beautiful. We were particularly happy because the earrings and also the bracelet
she was wearing worked so well with her outfit, and I think her whole look was so beautiful
and coherent; she made a good choice when she wore only earrings, leaving her neck bare.
The earrings are made with 62 opals, around 33 carats of opals and very, very tiny diamonds
set in white gold. They are part of the Red Carpet Collection 2014, so this is a preview
of our collection, which we present at the Cannes Film Festival every year.
We have a long tradition with red carpets all over the world and here in LA, but also
with the Cannes Film Festival, as we are the main sponsor of this festival. This year will
be the 11th year that we are on the red carpet, and our jewels are worn by Oscar winners.
That's why someone started to say that Chopard was a "lucky jeweller", and I am starting
to think that they were right, especially this year because we had two Oscar winners
wearing Chopard: Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey, who was wearing a Chopard watch.
He chose a L.U.C. watch, a special model, which is the tonneau shape in white gold,
and the dial was a silver dial. I think it was very elegant with the tuxedo he was wearing,
the white tuxedo I think it was -- just perfect.
Rachel Garrahan: Spanish actress and award presenter, Penélope Cruz, looked every inch
the Hollywood screen siren in her Chopard jewels. The other actress enjoying a big win
last night was Lupita N'yongo. At the Academy Awards she looked effortlessly chic in her
powder blue Prada gown accessorised with the jewel of the moment, a headband in yellow
gold with diamonds from Fred Leighton. Joined at the ceremony by her proud mother and brother,
Lupita also gave a nod to her heritage by wearing a gold frog ring by Fred Leighton,
which she described as her 'family totem'.
Amy Adams was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in 'American Hustle'. While
she didn't win an Oscar last night, she wore winning jewels with some welcome colour. Her
Tiffany earrings from the 2014 Blue Book Collection featured rhodochrosite, lapis and turquoise
earrings with diamonds, in 18-carat yellow gold. Against the simple backdrop of her deep-blue
Gucci gown, she also wore a yellow diamond bracelet.
Best Supporting Actress nominee, Jennifer Lawrence, did a repeat of last year's back
necklace, with a standout 100-carat diamond necklace from Neil Lane. Looking sophisticated
and modern in a red Dior peplum gown, the young actress also wore the Hollywood jeweller's
10-carat diamond and platinum studs and a large ring, featuring three beautiful fancy-coloured
diamonds, said to be worth US$1 million. And presenter Charlize Theron continued the New
York jeweller's formidable red carpet presence, with a spectacular, one-of-a-kind Harry Winston
diamond necklace worth US$15 million.
