quite a bit from patient to patient and quite a bit from the radiotherapy technique that
was initially used. The radiotherapy techniques that are being
looked at now such as partial breast radiation, accelerated partial breast radiation therapy,
and other newer techniques are to minimize any cosmetic changes associated with the radiation.
If one had radiation 12 years ago, it might have been with a technique that actually does
cause more skin thickening than we hope some of the current techniques will do. It’s
pretty common for women to have somewhat thickened skin after many years out from radiation but
this should not be a major clinical issue. *****
