Hi everyone welcome to JC's Quiz Show, on today's episode we've got Kato and Ray answering
questions about past Oscar winners for best picture,
so what are you guys like with your film knowledge, are you into films?
Well considering my username is "Ray Roberts Films" you would think so
you should be an expert then, should be...
I'll be very disappointed if you lose we'll see, we'll see
how about you Kato? and considering that my channel is called
the Kato vlog channel it's very obvious that you can tell my like obsession for films?
so yeah OK cool so, in this round I'm going to give
you two films each question that were up for nomination for best picture in the same year
and you've just got to tell me which one of the two I give you won the Oscar. OK?
Kato first, the first pair is from 1994 and it was Forrest Gump and it was up against
Pulp Fiction, which one, won? er, I'm going to go with Forrest Gump?
You are actually correct Forrest Gump won yes
OK so well done, lap it up lap it up
OK so Ray, the next year was 1997, and Good Will Hunting was up against Titanic, so which
one do you think won? based on your knowledge of those films
I've seen both that's good
um, which one would you have given the award to?
probably Titanic I don't like Matt Damon, so ah...
What has Matt Damon ever done to you? He actually punched me in the face
ah fair enough one time, so I might be a little bit biased,
but I'm going to go with Titanic You would be correct Titanic won, yeah so
that's one point each so far, so it's neck and neck
so the next year is 1998, so Kato, Saving Private Ryan was up against Shakespeare in
Love, which one won the Oscar? I'm going to go with Saving Private Ryan
I'm afraid it was actually Shakespeare in Love, it was arguably robbed er but erm yeah
Shakespeare in Love won it that year, not Saving Private Ryan, a lot of these questions
are kind of controversial wins that maybe, you know...
Oscars arguably never go to the right film but anyway
So Ray, in 2000 Gladiator was up against Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, now which one do you
think won the Oscar? hm... aren't Oscars quite well known for never
going for foreign films, that's a thing isn't it, I think that's a thing
more accusations against Hollywood yeah so I think I'm going to go with Gladiator,
purely based on racism you would be correct the Oscars are racist
you heard it here first, erm yes Gladiator won in 2000
so in 2003, this is for Kato, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King was up for best
picture and so was Lost in Translation which one do you think won?
I'm going to go with Lord of the Rings probably for racist reasons again
yeah on the same logic, I'm afraid, I don't like
backing up this particular accusation but I'm afraid yeah Return of the King did win
that year so i think it's, is it two points each so far? Yeah but there's just one more
question for Ray, so Ray if you get this question you'll win, if you don't get this question
it will go to a tie-breaker so, in 2007 two of the films that were up
for the Oscar were No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood, which one do you
think won the Oscar? Oh um,
Have you seen them by the way? I actually haven't
ah OK, I'm just trying to think, what are the choices
again? No Country for Old Men and There Will be Blood.
I'm going to go with... it's a tough choice even if you've seen them
yeah, I'll go with There Will Be Blood that sounds like a good title, a good award winning
title. I'm afraid it was actually no Country for
Old Men won the Oscar so... it goes to a tie-breaker So for the tie-breaker I'm going to ask you
both a question, you're both going to answer it and the closest answer to the correct answer
wins the round OK? This is tense.
The tie-breaker question is What year was the first ever Academy Awards ceremony held?
Who's going first? I'll let Ray go first and I'll just pick a lower number
year Zero! year zero Ok...
is that your answer Ray? no no it's not
is that your official answer? it's called a joke Kato
oh I'm sorry a joke.
sorry. Ah I'm going to go with 1936
OK I'll go with 1937
I hate you oh so you actually went higher instead of
lower? yeah a little curve ball right there
OK so the actual answer was May the 16th 1929 so Ray actually wins if you'd gone lower you
would have got it but nevermind so congratulations Ray, you won that round
on the Oscar Winners commiserations Kato, better luck next time
and I'll see you soon!
