To search for children’s books at Pitt Community College Library, go to the PCC Library homepage
and click on the link for the Library Catalog.
Next, select Power Search which is located under the catalog’s basic search box. Power Search is the library’s advanced search.
The Power Search allows you to search a specific location such as the Children’s Resources.
To find children’s books, click on the down arrow at the end of the Location field and select Children’s Resources.
If you are looking for a particular book, you can enter information such as the title and the author in the search boxes.
Then click on Search.
This is the item record for the book, Manners at School. In this record, you can see the item’s title, author, publication information, and more.
At the bottom left of the record is the call number assigned to this book.
It is made up of the author’s last name, first initial, and the first few words of the item’s title.
The call number helps you locate a book in a collection.
It is a good idea to write this information down so that you will know where to find the book.
Also, notice the item information and the location of the book. You can see that this book is available for you to check out.
If you click on the link for the Catalog Record, you see additional information about the book.
Often, the catalog record contains an abstract, or summary, of the contents of the book.
This can be helpful when you are not familiar with the books listed in your results.
You can also search for books by subject.
Click on New Search at the top of the page to get to a new search screen.
We are going to click on Power Search again and change the location to Children’s Resources.
This time, we will enter our search phrase, dental care, into the search box next to words or phrase.
You can enter additional search terms linked by the word OR to get more results.
And click on search.
You can see that our search produced 7 titles related to the words dental care or dentist.
You can click on any of these titles to find more information about the book.
