Today, August 29, one of the most influential jazz soloists and composers, Charles Parker,
Jr. was born in 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas, USA. Considered among the greatest musical
innovators of the 20th century, he began playing the saxophone at age 11 and is now recognized
as a father of bebop, a style of jazz music. In 1984 he was posthumously honored with the
Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Moreover, Mr. Parker has had several of his recordings,
such as "Charlie Parker with Strings" and "Jazz at Massey Hall," inducted into the Grammy
Hall of Fame. May creative geniuses such as Charlie Parker continue to bring joy to enthralled
listeners.
