Hello! I am Andrew and this is a weekly issue of Common Mistakes from the online school
englishdom.com. Today we will talk about the mistakes which often result from too close
translation of some idiomatic expressions. For example: we can MAKE a mistake, not do
a mistake. Don't say: I did one mistake in dictation. Say: I MADE one mistake in dictation.
We can TELL or SPEAK the truth, but not say the truth. Don't say: John always says the
truth. Say: John always TELLS the truth. Or: John always SPEAKS the truth. We can GO FOR
A RIDE on a bicycle but not go for a walk on a bicycle. Don't say: We went for a walk
on our bicycles. Say: We WENT FOR A RIDE on our bicycles. Hope it will help you guys!
See you soon!
