Hello my name is Josiah Ingalls and I'm running for City Council Place One.
Ah, I'm running for this position because I believe that we should bring more accountability and
transparency to our local government.
As many of you know
we have a lot of problems in this area for Austin government.
We've been having behind-closed door meetings
and a lot of other things been going on behind our backs
and
I hope to bring the transparency and accountability to our local government.
This way we can be able to
have a government that we can be a part of.
If I'm elected to City Council
I pledge to do a better job in balancing the budget.
Our current elected officials
have
done very poorly with our budget.
They passed the city budget last time and then added amendments and changes to that
at the last minute which does a disservice to the public because we need to be a part
of what happens with our city budget because it affects every part
of our city.
I also believe that we need to move in the direction to be able to equally fund
um
job creation and job training programs and our health and human services.
Instead of doing this in times past
our current sitting government
has decided that they were going to put more funding towards law enforcement
when
history shows us as a society
that when we focused on
health and human services and helping where
people and the most needy in our community really need the help,
in fact crime rates go down.
So I disagree with the fact that we should have more police
and move towards more of a police state or a police city as you would
and we also should be,
be moving in a direction where we no longer
subsidize
growth
This current City Council has approved funding for FormulaOne. They claim that it is in
order to be able to have
control of the waterways
in that area of the city
when most other cities
these have
fairly decent impact fees in order to pay for the impact for
the plumbing, electricity,
the extra police officers, firefighting, firefighters
or how it's going to affect
the needs of the schools
and in
our city, we do not have proper impact fees compared to cities of our size.
Instead the city passes
um... the,
the budget to be able to reflect to give millions of dollars to private entities, million-
dollar corporations
that can be able to find these things on their own. So we could be taking that same
several millions of dollars every year and putting those towards health and human services
and the other
very important things within our city that we need to be focusing on
and let the
high dollar development corporations
pay for
the impact of they should be paying for.
Austin needs to stop
forcing growth. This unhealthy growth
will lead to a lot of problems within our city. We need to be able to move in a direction
that we take care of
the things that we need to take care of and stop
putting
our policies in place that will specialize in
helping the
the special interests and the major development corporations as in times past.
If you elect me at to represent you for City Council Place One, I pledge to do a better
job
and to make sure that
we do not continue
you're down the path that we have always been down as
keeping things away from the public and keeping things
in such a way that it is very possible, impossible to be a part of this
uh...
local
city government.
Our current City Council will
move things around on the docket for City Council meetings to make it impossible for
us to be a part of this.
They also on the City Council meetings minutes for the section of the website, they
only have
a certain key agendas and you're not able to see all of the video for all of the agendas
for that City Council meeting.
and I thank you for your time and I'm asking for your support and your vote
uh... for City Council Place One.
