My name is Wes Rhodes, I'm from the Chinese Kung Fu Academy and for Expert Village and
this is how you trip, in the mantis style. The preying mantis is a sneaky style. You
do a fighting guard. The tripping is used to catch your opponent off guard, so if they
throw a punch, while you're a doing hand technique like grabbing or striking, you're going to
actually slip the foot behind their foot and when you hit, see, it's very easy. Again,
these techniques are done quickly and so when you punch, see. Tripping with the mantis style
is something that takes a lot of practice because you can't put weight on your foot.
If I'm weight forward and I try and push him down, you see, I go with him. The idea is
to keep your weight back, have a nice rooted stance and over they go. It doesn't take a
lot of power, it's all in the waist at the same time. With your foot, don't put it too
far away. This is not going to trip, this is not going to trip. See right here, that's
where it works. It's pretty simple. That is how you do a trip in the preying mantis style.
