SPC Preview – Disability Resources
For 80 years, St. Petersburg College has helped thousands of students obtain the skills and
knowledge to pursue their dreams. Hi I’m Peg Connell, Director of Disability
Resources. SPC and The Office of Disability Resources
is here to create a rich learning experience for you and to offer the assistance you need
to transition into the college. SPC provides support services for students with disabilities
in compliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities
Act of 1990. Each campus at SPC has a Disability Resources
office that was developed to help you obtain services to assist with your education. If
you have a qualifying disability and are admitted to SPC, you will meet with a learning specialist
in the Disability Resources office to address your personal needs.
Once you have made arrangements with an SPC learning specialist, you will have access
to a variety of services to help you with your studies, based on your disability. Some
of these services, to name a few, include note takers, sign language interpreting, extra
time on tests and adaptive equipment. The accommodations offered by SPC may be different
than accommodations you have been provided in the past. Please be aware that you are
responsible to initiate contact with disability resources and with your instructors.
If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment with a learning specialist
please visit the Disability Resources office on your campus or call me at 727-341-3398.
