The Olympics are back! Did you know that a number of figure skaters also supplement their training in the rink with ballet classes and Pilates?
Hey hey DancePluggers, Big J Carter here and I am back! American choreographer Daniel Ezralow
made his way overseas to take part in the making of the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
His 20 minute segment of the performance extravaganza was based on 20th century Russia
and included 80 professional dancers (count ‘em 80) and over 700 volunteers.
Ezralow is best known for his work as choreographer for the Spider Man Broadway musical
and as a former member of the Paul Taylor Dance company. Kudos on you, Mr. Ezralow
Super producer Pharrell Williams has released the new video to his song Happy
from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack and his forthcoming sophomore lp.
This video is so wonderful because it features everyday people getting down to the song
as opposed to choreographed or hired dancers.
Its just normal people like me and you jamming out to a wonderful track.
And every now and then you see Pharrell himself does little ditty and gets jiggy with it,
he tries to play like he’s not, but we got you Pharrell. Nonetheless the video is hot, check it out on Youtube.
For those of you tuning in from down under, things are looking up
So You Think You Can Dance Australia has made its way back on air.
The show was cancelled back in 2011, but it’s since been revived on the Ten network,
been given a new look and now featuring Paula Abdul, Jason Gilkison, Aaron Cash,
and Shannon Holtzapffel as judges, the network hopes to see the star-searching show perform better this time around. Good luck!
My girl Brittany Perry-Russell was on the scene last Saturday covering Momentum, an Evening of Dance
at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. Wonderful night and wonderful talent. Check it out!
Dance star Wendy Whelan has unfortunately had to postpone her national tour for the spring, as her hip is still recovering from a previous surgery.
When she began noticing pain in her right hip, doctors discovered a labral tear in her hip joint.
Whelan underwent an operation for the injury in August of 2013
and planned to tour “Restless Creature” throughout the US beginning this March,
but they have been postponed until further notice. Here’s to wishing Wendy a full and timely recovery!
Beyoncé changed the music industry in December when she dropped her visual album simply titled Beyoncé.
Partition is one track that I am obsessed with. It's a simple beat mixed with some very suggestive vocals and a baseline that is undeniably infections.
Throwback hip hop style at it's very best.
I was surprised to see this from Beyonce because she’s more of an R&B queen, but this one is hard core slamming. Smash hit wonder!
Have you heard of the No Body Shame Campaign? Founder Whitney Thore has been trending all over lately!
Thore, who experienced a rapid gain of 200 pounds when diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome years ago, at first had dropped out of dance classes.
However, her love for dance led her to launch this campaign, with a fun video series titled “A Fat Girl Dancing”
that encourages people of all body types to get moving!
She’s not all talk, either -- the girl can DANCE! Real talk people, this girl can dance and put it down.
Well kiddies that’s all from me from the DancePlug studios!
But before I go, check out aspiring choreographer and dancer Taywanna, who hails from LA and graduated with her BA in Dance from UC Riverside.
You know what you gotta do, don’t act brand new: Like, comment, and subscribe!
Thank you so much for watching, and as always, Danceplug has got you covered.
