hi, I'
m tom pogue, community
relations manager for the
department of transportation.
Here is an update from
montgomery county.
County executive leggett has
launched a new campaign about
the consequences of failing to
practice safe behaviors.
They appear on ride on buses and
on shelters with the highest
concentrations of pedestrian
collisions.
Most locations are along state
roads, so the county and state
are working together to enhance
pedestrian safety.
Along piney branch road, where
the campaign kickoff was held,
improvements include better
signs, restriped sidewalks,
upgraded streetlights, and two
pedestrian refuge islands.
Pedestrians are urged to wait
for the walk signal, watch for
turning vehicles, and cross at
the crosswalk.
Drivers should stop for
pedestrians in crosswalks, slow
down, and avoid driving while
distracted.
