Here it is, the Nissan GT-R.
Queue bombastic music.
I've been reading the press release.
The Japanese say that
Italian design is more feminine...
...with softer shapes.
And the GT-R's designer
wanted a more masculine design...
...with more styled shapes and more muscle.
Draw your own conclusion.
Fooling aside, it looks good...
...it's a nice looking car.
It isn't a Skyline GT-R...
...but just a GT-R.
It's the first time Nissan
didn't base it on an existing model...
...but instead built an entirely new car.
They've used a lot of aluminum and carbon.
And, looking at its weight of 3.850 lbs,
you maybe wouldn't say...
...it's packing a lot of gadgetry,
electronics and a 4wd system.
At first I was afraid that I was going
to find this car a bit over-engineered.
But as it turns out I don't find that at all.
Upon driving off the first time,
I thought WOW.
It makes all the noises...
...you can hear the differentials
and the gearbox.
It's a very fast car,
but you already knew that of course.
A top speed of 195 mph,
that's great, but we have't tested it today.
0-62 takes 3,5 seconds, I believe that.
All that it the result of
the big V6 under the hood.
It's hand-built, it's 3,8 liters big...
...two turbos, 480 hp, 560 Nm of torque.
That's really a lot.
No two engines are exactly the same
because they're hand-built.
So your GT-R could
just have a bit more horsepower.
This car was already hyped-up
before it set foot on European soil.
It was already released in Japan
and it was fantastic...
...and it was quicker than any other car.
And that has happened.
On the NŸrburgring,
domain of the German car manufacturers...
...the GT-R is currently the king.
That's quite annoying...
...for the Germans that is.
It's typically Japanese...
...there aren't a whole lot of buttons,
but there is a big display...
...that can show me all sorts of information.
The oil pressure in the transmission,
for example. If you're interested in that.
But it also shows the torque-distribution.
It I hit the throttle,
it sends more to the front...
...and if I drive normally,
it's actually a rear wheel drive car.
And it can also kick out a bit.
The GT-R really is Nissan's flagship...
...it got the best technology
they have to offer.
Like a very advanced 4wd system...
...nice Brembo brakes,
stopping is important too...
...and double clutch gearbox.
The gearbox's got a bit of a rough edge,
which fits the car.
And more important,
it's got fixed pedals behind the wheel...
...so you always know which side does what.
The most important thing
is also the most funny one...
...and that's the price.
It starts at about 120 grand...
...and there are some options
that make it a bit more expensive.
But just look at what other cars
you can get for that money...
...Corvette has got some nice things...
...but you can barely buy a Porsche 911 for it.
And you should really compare
this car to the 911 Turbo...
...and that costs more than 200.000 euros...
...so it's more than 80 grand more expensive.
So if you buy this one,
you can also get an Audi S5 for your wife.
Think about that for a moment.
There are few cars that we've talked about
as much as we did about this one.
We've finally driven it...
...and that means we'll talk about it even more.
What an animal.
