Eric Holder has said that he's going to basically
with federal drug charges they're going to get around to the minimum mandatory
sentences
ever since Nixon declared his war on drugs
mostly Republican legislators although dean of
a few democrats have had more than their share to do with this um
nelson rockefeller republican or Democrat he was
he was yeah he was a moderate Republican he's rockefeller republican indicates
that the the Rockefeller greta is this a lot of the started New York with nelson
rockefeller with the Rockefeller drug laws
and then you know when national begin the nixon war on drugs cetera
and the idea was that drugs are good for people
and because we know what's best for everybody but we're going to
make them illegal and but be people continue to use them
may continue to smoke pot in particular and *** secondarily and mouth
they continue to use them and and my god they use them without a prescription I
mean you can buy met with the prescriptions called adderall
and there's probably a million kids in the united states were getting it every
day by prescription but
you know god forbid they should buy it from somebody who is not
a physician and actually I don't disagree with that sentiment II
methamphetamines Commission fairy very destructive drug
but that's sad by dealing with that
by the law instead of by Madison what we do is we've
is we push both the producers and the consumers
into the world of law enforcement in prisons
when they should be in a hospital and they should be seen a doctor or
psychiatrist these are people with addiction problems
they have medical problems so what Eric Holder has said and but but dinner in
any case what what
what the route largely republican but the legislatures have been doing over
the years and they're doing it more and more and more in our state after state
but the federal as well
and they do it in part because they get money from the private prison industry
which makes a fortune office what they've been doing is they've been
making these laws
more more draconian more and more harsh they get money from the private prison
industry the big funders have congress the end
you know invest a few tens of thousands hundreds of thousands dollars maybe a
few million dollars in congress
make back billions just like the defense industry
just like the banksters and it we're going to talk about this in the third
hour program today an amazing article in NYTimes this weekend
about this one brand new republican congressman
Jan john bainer put him on the Financial Services Committee which regulates the
bank's
and spry is the bank gave her fifty thousand bucks more than pretty much
anybody else in congress and he's been writing legislation for them so fast
so your with regard to drugs same thing you got the drug-testing companies
like you know the company that rick Scott used to be involved with people
who do drug testing for a living
they lobby for the stuff you got the
you've got the private prison industry you've got the alcohol and tobacco
industry who are legally selling drugs
and they don't want competition from another drug
pop hey you know it's a would put them on a business
part is far less tap toxic and alcohol and frankly more pleasant high
and
it's a lot easier to spot them than tobacco although I don't think anybody
would ever smoke tobacco
our spot part where the smoke tobacco I mean you just don't you know go through
you know 30 20 30 40 joints a day it just doesn't happen
many other tobacco industry tobacco been a psychoactive drugs alcohol being a
psychoactive drug
these two industries are very very concerned about this and so they're all
*** money in legislatures
and so what the legislatures do as they pass laws saying that if you're caught
with more than with less than six grams a ***
two-year jail more than six grams of *** I
the minimum mandatory 10 years or whatever it is I don't know the exact
number years but that kinda thing
so what Eric Holder has said is that when federal indictment sir issue
they're going to stop mentioning the amount
even if they know so won't be for the record I won't be part of the club the
trials
so they still they will bring it up at sentencing
so if the guy is selling pounds of attacking me taking into account
but they're gonna do it in a way that doesn't trigger minimum mandatory
wats this is world
you're listening to the Thom Hartmann program
call 866 nine eight seven th 0 am
the only tragedy is that it's only happening at the federal level in the
vast majority a drug bust your state State Rams
he seems to have a nation
