A nicely made box with the word birds on it.
What can it be?
And sure enough there's a bird there, and a flock of birds here.
So, take the lid open and let's see what we can find. That's an extraordinary object.
We call it a WIF: What's it for?
Until people pick it up and play with it there's no saying what that's going to do.
The clue is that each of the little black tubes has a whistle in it, so when you pick
it up like this and then shake it back and forwards, then it will make a noise like...
[shakes back and forwards]
arh, a chattering of starlings.
It reminds me of my walk through Leicester Square in Central London.
So often you hear that extraordinary sound;
hundreds and hundreds of birds all crying out.
[shaking back and forth]
They're quite random too.
Yes, that's what it is, a chattering of starlings.
