November 2010
Centenary of the Mexican Revolution
Coming back to this alternative trade exchange
In the Espinal area, in the heart of Totonacapan
Back to America, Espinal,
a town in the Mexican state of Veracruz
has created its own currency.
The Tumin works based on a barter system of goods and services,
inspired by other international experiences.
A community currency that complements the "peso,"
the official currency, of course.
Their goal is to boost the local economy,
they want the money to stay in town,
the assets to be for
traders, hoteliers, restaurateurs, Espinal farmers have also joined ...
Then the government heard about it, through a Televisa report.
When it reach the media, everybody said "Great! Look how popular we are!"
But when PGR (Attorney General) came
then ah! Fear spread.
The Bank of Mexico has no arguments,
has complaints sent by someone powerful...
The Bank of Mexico doesn't give orders,
it is an another puppet, it is a infimus felinus of the powerful
It's quite another level...
I mean, they put everything at the same level, the Bank of Mexico
against some insignificant cats of the Tumin.
Our system is the opposite of the logic of the "peso."
The Tumin is not a currency made to speculate.
The Tumin is not in debt to anyone.
The Tumin is not used to generate slavery.
If we compare "peso" and Tumin:
the "peso" is worthless compared to the Tumin.
The Tumin is not used to generate crime,
the "peso" is.
The “peso” is totally perverted,
corrupted,
made for usury.
It is not even Mexican but generated by banks,
inside of a computer.
The Tumin allowed the "peso" to live in Espinal
because it reinforced and encouraged
small bonds in the local economy
that before were spent, useless.
Espinal, Land of the Tumin. Learn to speak Totonac like our ancestors.
Meat, vegetables,
clothes, medicines...
You, when you walk into the Tumin,
you stop being a customer
and you become a partner.
So we have created a community currency
that just hits the system
where it hurts the most.
A new economic model
that is showing that another economy is possible.
We wanted to do our little revolution
here in our village, in our region.
Something small, in our own way
little people, in little places, doing small things,
and changing the world,
transforming the world.
Like that, that's who we want to be.
TUMIN
ANOTHER ECONOMY IS POSSIBLE
