We overcome the bumps and bruises, and surely outgrow that first helmet...
but we never forget how to ride a bike.
Children’s bikes represent a special period in the lives of both parents and kids.
It’s a time of both learning and exploration that begins around age 3.
Most kids start with either a tricycle or training wheels,
though 2-wheel balance bikes are an emerging alternative.
Once your past this beginning phase, you’ll want to find a bike that’s the right size.
Children’s bikes are sized by the wheel diameter, not seat height
– aside from that, the guidelines for determining appropriate fit
are the same as they would be for an adult bicycle.
Many of the components on kids’ bikes are similar or standardized industry norms,
such as safety features like chain guards.
The biggest decision factor is usually around what type of brake
– hand activated or back pedal coaster –
your child will be most comfortable using.
And remember, while you’re crunching the numbers and specs on all the various models,
don’t forget to have fun and enjoy this special time with your child.
