Can we bath ferrets?
Well, the answer is yes. Here I am in the bathroom
ready to give Wildfred his first bath.
Wilfred is a pet that arrived at home a couple of weeks ago
he is already vaccinated, this is very important because we need them to be
completely vaccinated before giving them their first bath.
We can bath them once a month. You can do this inside your own
bathroom, because you will have handy everything you will need
and their perfect bath
is precisely our bathroom sink.
We need a special shampoo.
Here it is. When I say special, what I mean is that it has the appropriate Ph
for the ferret's skin, that it is specific to neutralize the
ferret's body smell.
We need warm water, and you can imagine the the rest, we need a bath like
a bath we would use for any small pet at home.
We will start with water only. Its the first time that Wilfred is having a bath,
so we have to be very careful
and try not to cause him a trauma, you can see
that he is quite calm, make sure the water is warm
and do it in small amounts.
Right, we have washed him first with water only, he feels very happy
now we will start with the
shampoo. I normally shampoo them twice.
I have to be rub it in well
like this
everywhere.
Try to avoid the face,
It wouldn't be good if shampoo gets into their eyes.
We take advantage to give him a nice massage,
They get to like it and it relaxes them a lot.
The first soaping is where you can see more dirt coming out.
As they get into holes all day...
They accumulate quite a lot of dirt.
Water must be warm but only slightly
Especially in summer or hot seasons.
Now, we are recording in summer, I don't know in what season you will be when you watch this video or
in which country you are from
normally you have to be logical, just like us that we
like fresh water in summer
they too prefer colder water, on the other hand
in winter you can use warmer water.
Right, after this first soaping, we will give him another one,
we will be generous...
It is important to rub the tail well,
its one of the places where you can find more dirt,
and where you can find
what we call
black spots, and sometimes the hair follicle
fills in with dirt, and causes the hair to stop growing
and in some occasions leaves a bare tail
and full of dirt.
Great,
he is behaving incredibly well for being his first bath.
Wilfred's behaviour is not very normal, look how I
am holding him, he is really enjoying it, look
I amb bathing him tummy upwards, and I can swear that this is his
first bath,
its the first time the animal gets into the water. You can see that he
is enjoying it a lot.
He looks like an otter.
It seems that he is
going to fall asleep, just like an otter.
Its incredible.
He loves it.
Right, now that he is rinsed out, it is important to rinse out all
the shampo, from all over him...
We stop the water
and use a towel that we have handy
and now, we will energetically dry him out with the towel, he will enjoy it, he is even playing,
we cover him with the towel, and give him a nice massage.
If you will be using the hairdryer
make sure that its not a very powerful hairdryer, and dry them from a certain distance, as I have said
in many occasions that heat is very bad for the ferrets.
Finally, we can give them a brushing.
Depending on the ferret's hair,
this one, as he's young, its not very necessary, but if you have a long haired
ferret, with angora hair, then we will have to brush them a bit more,
but not excessively.
Perfect,
This is finished more or less,
and now, some perfume...special perfume,
a neutralizer
especial to neutralize the ferret smell
and poo smell..
it smells great.
Perfect, well with this
the bathing time is finished, and you can see that it is not
complicated at all.
I hope you have learned a lot, and I want to tell you that you don't need anything special,
only what we have here, a shampoo, and that you can do it in your own bathroom
without any problem.
So, that's it, lets say goodbye Wilfred
see you soon.
