I welcome you today in my workshop.
You will not believe it, it itches me again in the fingers.
Why? I'm building something new!
When I build something, then are the thoughts on my mind for the next project and the next and so on.
The cabinet is now finished and I had time.
Therefore, I've already started my ideas for the next project into practice.
This is a new exciting journey.
I would like to invite you to come with me.
I want to emphasize again today.
I do not make instructional videos.
I want to show you my fun.
while working with veneer, shellac, glue, and most importantly with wood.
What is new?
I am building a book, a book! A book with finesse.
First, the book will be like a real book to confuse.
Second, the book cover and the spine are to receive a special design.
The interior is like a box of pictures or documents or ...
I can not show you a picture that exists only in my head.
I can tell you my thoughts.
There should be an old worn book. As these Bible, only slightly larger.
On the cover is a marquetry in 3D.
A gaping hole, through which you can see on the first page of text.
I have some pre-prepared and can show it to you.
The construction period will not be as long because the wood work are low.
But there are some intricate details, so I build only a sample.
It is based on the inner box.
This is covered with veneer glued to each other.
It looks from the side like the book pages.
I have sycamore veneer, which I use for it. The stack is even higher.
The stack is glued without great pressure, therefore remain small spaces.
The package of veneer is u-shaped cut out and glued to the box.
The wooden frame should show on the pattern.
Another feature is a double bottom, secret compartment?
With a hidden clasp.
I am also known pattern.
And here's something very beautiful.
I have walnut burl veneer. The appearance is like velvet or suede, it feels like that.
This veneer I use for the cover of the book.
The look is as old leather, as worn.
Here I have drawn me a picture. This represents the hole
The graphic is incorporated as the walnut veneer marquetry in the lid.
There still is pure text, so letters of veneer.
Here I want to show you an exercise. My first attempt at a 3D image from veneer.
This technique I still want to continue to improve.
The spine of the book is to be round in shape. The exact details I'm considering yet.
Maybe I process again tin.
I wanted to attach the lid with a hinge. I will not do that.
I will use a leather strip.
There will be several episodes of the building again.
I've been working on the marquetry yesterday.
This work I filmed and I will show two videos.
Remains pretty curious, I am too.
I have my fun at work and I wish you well.
