Back in our final year of university my sister was going to get married so she was like following
all the hotel vendors all these kinds of things.
So I went with her and then to see what they offered her were just templates, I was quite shocked.
Because it's like my sister's big day, but yet she has to subject herself to a template.
And it's like, why can't it be customised for her?
So this whole thought just lingered with me. Then I shared it with Weiyan.
In our final year, we were exposed to things like design thinking, experience design.
The whole idea of design, the whole process of it. So we kind of channeled this new
design knowledge into an area that really interested us, excited us, which are celebrations.
We realised there was a really, really big opportunity there because it has not been done before.
And we just thought there's no harm trying. I mean, if let's say we spend one year doing it and it doesn't work out,
you're still young, you can still move on.
Everybody recommends us to take the safer route. Since you have a degree, just do something that your degree allows you to.
But then we knew that if we take this route, we might be so comfortable that we might not want to step out again after that.
So then, this was a now or never thing for us.
We started off without taking pay. We really still had to live with an allowance from our parents first.
When we started coming in right, we took an allowance from them. Then we gave ourselves an allowance.
So for us it definitely was something we were troubled about. But I think we didn't choose to focus on it.
We focused on what we really love to do, which is really designing, crafting and really making celebrations good and beautiful.
And I think affirmation from the couple or even the guests themselves, if they really enjoyed the wedding or they really enjoyed the space
It just meant so much more than the financial aspect then.
I think it helps to take time. Don't rush into like doing everything your classmates are doing.
Take your time, step back and see what you're interested in.
And just try. Just try. There's no harm trying.
