[INTRO PLAYING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: We will be reading from "Soul Survivors,"
the official autobiography of Destiny's Child.
[APPLAUSE, LAUGHTER, AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I am Beyonce Giselle Knowles.
[LAUGHTER AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: The deal my parents made before I was born
was that my dad would pick my middle name and my mom would
pick my first name.
[LAUGHTER]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: Through the years, I've
grown to love it, Beyonce.
[LAUGHTER]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I try to be the best person I can be.
But I'm not physically a perfect specimen.
[LAUGHTER]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I'm a singer and a song writer.
I'm not Cindy Crawford.
[LAUGHTER]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I gain weight in my thighs.
I'm human.
I hear remarks like, Beyonce got fat.
It's tough having to watch my weight.
I don't want to watch what I eat at every meal, but it's
part of being a celebrity.
I hired a personal trainer.
They have no carb chocolate now, which is saving my life.
[LAUGHTER AND CHEERING]
JACKIE HOFFMAN: I'm Kelly.
I've always gone by the name Kelly, even though it's
Kelendria on my birth certificate.
I might seem wild, but I'm really sensitive.
I can also be very moody when it comes to clothes.
I think I'm going through a weird phase now where I'll
just wear little t-shirts or tank tops and jeans.
I like to slip on flip-flops or a pair of cute tennis shoes
unless it's winter time.
Having a cool bag is important too.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
MARIO CANTONE: I'm Michelle.
Some people may not know that Tenitra is my real first name.
That's what I've been called my entire life unless my
mother was trying to get my attention.
Then I would hear, Tenitra Michelle!
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
MARIO CANTONE: Or Tenitra Michelle Williams!
So when I come home to Rockford, Illinois, I'm
Tenitra again.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: In person, I don't look as good
as I do in my videos.
That sometimes surprises fans.
They see me somewhere with bags under my eyes and say,
ooh, she's got bags!
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: And they're not talking
Louis Vuitton either.
Or someone will make a comment if I have a few
zits across my forehead.
Hey, I break out sometimes.
Once in a while, I look downright gross.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
JACKIE HOFFMAN: I have a beautiful teacup
Yorkie named Mohawk--
he actually has a little mohawk on his head--
who won't stop chewing on my pillows.
When I decided that I wanted a dog and went pooch shopping,
Beyonce said--
SHERRI SHEPHERD: Mm, this dog needs to be different.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
JACKIE HOFFMAN: That's because all the pets we've had have
been absolutely nuts.
MARIO CANTONE: We had a kitty named Master P.
SHERRI SHEPHERD: We also had a rabbit named Asia.
JACKIE HOFFMAN: And she was nutty too.
[LAUGHTER]
MARIO CANTONE: The only people who call me Michelle are the
people who know me as part of Destiny's Child.
JACKIE HOFFMAN: That's right.
MARIO CANTONE: Mm-hmm.
[LAUGHTER]
MARIO CANTONE: Even people who I meet more than once get to
know me as Michelle.
And then I'll tell them my real first name.
Tenitra.
[LAUGHTER]
MARIO CANTONE: Either way, I'm cool.
I'll answer to both.
So it doesn't matter what I'm called, Michelle, Tenitra,
even my nickname, TT.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
MARIO CANTONE: In a way, I feel like I'm two people,
Michelle and Tenitra.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I'm never satisfied, and
I'm proud of that.
I have been approached to write songs for a few singers.
I think it's very important for performers to write their
own material because everyone's
vocabulary is different.
For instance, if I like something I
might say, that's tight.
Whereas they would say, that's good.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: Or they might say, that sucks.
And I will say, that's whack.
Everyone should value his or her own voice.
JACKIE HOFFMAN: The older I get--
The older I get, the more I want to be loved and have
someone in my life to share things with.
This can be a lonely business.
That's why I am so happy for Britney Spears and Justin
Timberlake.
It's so cute how they support each other's careers and make
time for each other in their lives.
If Brittney is in the recording studio, Justin will
drop by for like five minutes and surprise her.
It's those little minutes that could mean so much.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
MARIO CANTONE: I don't hang out with many people who are
in the industry.
Lance Bass two-ways me every now and then, and
I'll two-way him back--
sometimes.
SHERRI SHEPHERD: In the time leading up to the next album
we record as Destiny's Child, I know for a fact that
everybody's going to grow.
Kelly and Michelle, they are so shy.
When I try to write songs with them, they don't
have much to say.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: I don't know why.
Not everybody likes writing.
It will be interesting.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
JACKIE HOFFMAN: We don't know what our next
album will sound like.
Basically, it will be a more mature Destiny's Child.
I'm still trying to figure out how to do my own album, so I'm
constantly asking Beyonce questions.
She's so wise.
[LAUGHTER]
JACKIE HOFFMAN: It's great that she will
always give me advice.
MARIO CANTONE: Kelly, and Beyonce, and I are as tight as
three unrelated people can possibly be.
[LAUGHTER]
MARIO CANTONE: Sure, there have been bumps.
But we are in no way running away from each other.
Oh, I just got a two-way from Lance Bass.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
SHERRI SHEPHERD: Beyonce--
JACKIE HOFFMAN: Kelly--
MARIO CANTONE: Michelle and Tenitra--
ALL SPEAKING: Destiny's Child.
[LAUGHTER, APPLAUSE, AND CHEERING]
