Clare is 13 years old. She has significant intellectual and physical disabilities. She’s just completed fifth grade.
She’s the light of our lives, and her brother’s, at times…but she has a lot of friends, and she makes a difference in the world.
We’re very concerned that the changes that are being brought forth for Medicaid will just ruin the lifelines for everyone with disabilities if the costs were transferred to the state.
I would have to quit work. The older Clare gets, you know, when she graduates from school, it’s going to be – since her needs are so significant – it’s going to be difficult for her to get a job.
She would never be able to live independently without supports, so she would really be stuck, and I don’t know if there’s a person who wants to live with old people.
And as her dad and I get older, you know, she would be stuck living with us, and I don’t think that’s a life I would want for anyone.
