60 Second Interview Dr David Sollis, Engagement Manager
You're the Engagement Manager at Healthwatch Essex, what does your job involve?
Well as Engagement Manager for Healthwatch Essex, it involves recruiting, training, supporting
and motivating a whole group of Ambassadors who volunteer for us and the work we do.
What do Healthwatch Essex Ambassadors do and why are they so important?
The Ambassador role is really important because they are the eyes and ears for Healthwatch
Essex on the ground and they collect the voice and the lived experience of the people of
Essex.
What would you say to people thinking about volunteering for Healthwatch Essex?
The first thing I'd say to anyone wishing to volunteer with Healthwatch Essex is that
it's the biggest challenge you are ever going to face right now around health and social
care. If you look at the news or read the newspapers it's all about how the system isn't
working. But actually, we need people to step up and be part of that solution.
What keeps you awake at night?
What keeps me awake at night is simply the amount of people, the amount of voices - there's
1.5 million people in Essex - and I want to get their stories and to use that to influence
the way health and social care works.
And finally, if you had a superpower, what would it be?
If I had a superpower, I'd love to be able to read minds, so I'd love to actually hear
what they're thinking, rather than what people are saying because that's not always joined
up.
