personnel policy for recruiting and hiring across the federal government
to almost two million federal employees
and close to 15 million Americans who are also looking for Federal employment.
Personnel policy for
federal employees means that it's things that cover all kinds of things like
how they apply for a position. If we have to run things like the reduction in
force, how would they be affected
during an adverse kind of situation? So it runs the whole gamut
of everything from how their classified, to
how we recruit for them, how we hire them into their particular positions. I think
one of the ways
we're solving problems is that we put together some best talent
that's out there and a lot of it's here at OPM.
But then we collaborate a lot with the agencies and stuff to kind of pull
together
and come up with what I think are creative solutions.
I think that there's probably no better satisfaction than that. Than knowing that
you doing the right thing.
It's not about the money, it's not about the prestige, it's not about the position
it's just really
truly about delivering what you think is in the best interest of the American public.
From a passion standpoint I think what makes it, for me, what gives me passion is
all the creativity in things.
It's kind of like the sky's the limit when you have the ability to write the legislation,
you have the ability to write regulations that
two million federal employees follow. Then to me policy work, while some may
see it is boring,
to me I think it's the coolest job of all because you have the ability to
write the future.
