Peace and good! Thank your for the questions you've sent.
Today we'll talk about song lyrics and the behaviour of artists on the stage.
Namely, the situation when music is great but the lyrics are anti-Christian, anti-Catholic or even blasphemous.
Or when the lyrics are fine, the music is ok but the behaviour of artists is not really appropriate, as in the example you gave that someone was *** on the stage.
Can we listen to such music which can be really well-made but the lyrics are offensive to out faith?
My question is: why listen to such lyrics or read such texts, also in literature, in some brochures, newspapers
if these texts attack our faith in some way and are anti-religious?
Why should we buy such magazines and read what is offensive to our religious feelings?
I understand we can do it, so to speak, to recognise the enemy, to see what is going on around us.
Ok but if I already know that a given artist sings songs which are anti-religious, what for should I listen to him?
I listened to him once, I know the artist promotes anti-Christian ideas, sings about things I disagree with because they're blasphemous, then why should I listen to him again?
I know this man. Unless I discover that he's changed, or even converted suddelny.
I think we can look at it in two ways. Firstly, if I go on his concert, or listen to his albums I even pay him for doing it because they get a lot of money for it.
So I support this artist in a way, and so provoke him to continue to create such music because people want to buy it.
And the second thing is that such lyrics influence us and do not come unnoticed.
If you listen to it and understand the lyrics, remember that music is a great way to convey some message.
If this message is accompanied by a given attitude and I'm present at such an event, I also support this attitude myself.
If I know a given artist and I know what he does on the stage but still I take part in his performace, I do support him.
Let's not forget about the fact that our presence in some place can be insulting or shocking to some people and we can't ignore their feelings.
I can either offend or motivate somebody by supporting different attitudes.
If I showed up at a *** films festival, it would not only be sensational but also offensive.
Unless you were able to justify your presence there by your will to convert the producers.
If that was your intention, it would be good. But still I wouldn't have to do it at a festival.
When we show at some place, we make our attitude more believable.
Someone can see that you take communion and go to church regularly, but take part in such and such events, listen to such and such music.
Moreover, we have to remember about another thing. Sometimes producers or people who create music
have a gift of composing music which is memorable
it stays in our heads, and it contains lyrics which shape our conscience, whether we want it or not.
And it is not meaningless.
One book comprising texts about the fathers of the church, so good texts, is entitled 'I feed you with what I live on myself'.
So if someone lives with such music and such lyrics, if he listens to them, then he feeds himself with them.
So it may happen that he will change his way of thinking. He will start thinking the way his mind is manipuated, step by step.
St Paul puts it very clearly: 'Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial'.
And avoid even a semblance of evil.
Undeniably, if I know that some artist sings evil, blasphemous, anti-religious, anti-Christian lyrics
and I know that he attacks faith, God, morality if he manifests it with his behaviour
It is my duty to isolate myself from such an attitude, consider it to be something evil and never participate in such concerts.
I shouldn't take part in such concerts, associate myself with such music, even if it is nice and easily memorable.
Peace and good!
