The United States has reiterated its calls on Korea and Japan to resolve their historical
and territorial differences through dialogue. At a press briefing Wednesday, U.S. State
Department spokesperson Marie Harf said Washington will encourage its two key regional allies
to cooperate in the name of maintaining peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
However, Harf refused to comment on remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's
special adviser Eto Seiichi,... who earlier this week criticized the U.S. for expressing
disappointment over Abe's visit to the Yasukuni war shrine in December.
Harf only said that Washington's efforts to get Seoul and Tokyo on better terms would
not be swayed by such a view from a Japanese official.
