I think that the most important skill
that an educator can possess
is a desire to reach out to the student.
Who is willing to put in as much effort into your learning
as you are.
Somebody who not only can teach you everything
that you need to learn for the class,
but can interact with the students,
and can have a personal connection with them.
An educator definitely has to be open, you know,
has to be approachable so you can go to them
if you need help or something like that.
They try to really relate to the students
and form a relationship.
They come and they support us at our after school events
and activities and things like that.
Every day they come into a class they're just looking
to help a kid as much as they can.
Someone who is compassionate, passionate about their job,
also shows an awareness, shows that they care.
Someone who inspires, goes beyond teaching from a textbook.
Making sure you captivate the student's attention
and go with, like, their interests.
Teachers in general--
and I've had several teachers like this--
who really show that they care about me
outside of my performance in the class
have had the biggest impact.
Next year I'll be attending Johns Hopkins University
for biomedical engineering.
Next year I'll be going to Northeastern,
I'm going to be majoring in physics.
Next year I'm planning on going to UMass Amherst
as a biochemistry and molecular biology major,
and I'm in the honors college.
Well, I'm studying international business
and public policy at Northeastern University.
Biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology.
I like to help people,
so I'm thinking about majoring in social work
and perhaps being a guidance counselor some day.
I'm going to Dartmouth College next year,
and there I'm going to study psychology
and possibly minor in education and global health.
I hope to work at a company like Google or something like that
where all day I'm just working with other people
to make something beautiful that people use.
I definitely think I'm well prepared
for what I do in the future.
I feel prepared for the real world.
A lot of the reason that I have this future
is because of my high school
and the teachers I've interacted with.
I couldn't have done it without them
and they're the ones who have motivated me to get there
because they've taught me how important it is
to work hard and how important education is.
GIRL: The word that best describes
my favorite educator would be dedicated.
Passionate.
Committed.
Supportive.
I don't want to be cliché and say caring,
but maybe "interested" would be a better word.
Compassionate.
They're innovative, they're passionate, they inspire...
Motivating, encouraging and enthusiastic.
They're passionate about their work.
They give more of themselves into their work
than anyone but an artist.
The educators at my school are amazing because they do so much
beyond what they're compensated for,
beyond what they're expected to do,
to make sure that all students receive the education they need
to be happy, healthy individuals.
Thank you for being really passionate about this.
Thank you.
I just say thank you.
I would probably thank my guidance counselor a lot.
I don't think I would have been able
to pull through junior year as well as I did without her.
Thank you for showing me all the opportunities that science has.
If I could say anything I would just like to thank them
for everything, for helping guide me through this journey.
I definitely think that a lot of my educators have helped me
develop what I want to do with my life
and where I want to go in my future.
The educators in my school are amazing
because they're so passionate and they really try to captivate
and motivate the students to strive for excellence.
They go above and beyond what I think is expected of them.
She never made us feel like we couldn't do it.
He loves what he does and he loves working with kids.
They're always there late helping students.
They not only can impact my learning,
but they can also impact my lifestyle,
the way I think about things,
and the way I view the world around me.
I see them changing up their curriculum,
looking at new magazines to see
what the latest trends in education are,
like, flipping their classroom inside out.
Keep on doing what you're doing.
It obviously works and, you know,
you've made a difference in my life; there's no doubt
that you made a difference in other people's lives,
so we all appreciate that.
