Hello gamers, welcome to another "Jogando Offline" (Playing Offline)
I'm Kugnar, son of Koigan, the dwarf.
And I'm Presto.
But you are dressed in red?!
Am I?
I'm colorblind.
Ahh I'm gonna kill you
your clown.
Blue wand, blue wand...
No, green sock!
Hahaha, hahaha.
And this Spartan helmet with you there!
- It's not working! - Not indeed.
- Well, I'm Sergião. - And I'm Pena.
And today we'll talk about...
Descent, Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition)
Descent is a game released by Fantasy Flight in 2012.
Is a game of adventure, dungeon crawling.
One player do the role the Overlord.
That is a dreadful villain, ready to destroy the kingdom and its surroundings.
The other players play the heroes
who will try to face battles, dungeons, kill creatures
and ultimately save the princess from the dragon.
But... there is no princess here.
Ahhh... humm dragon.
Hahahha, ahhahah.
Well, let's talk about the game sheet.
Is a game of 1 to 2 hours in length,
depending on which adventures you play.
Holds 2 to 5 players
one of them is mandatory the Overlord.
It's mechanics is: semi-cooperative, all against one.
Also
it has dice rolling and character's evolution.
It has a repaly...
Ouch, it's gonna start again...
REPLAYABILITY
It has a really nice replayability
because the whole scenario is modular rooms and hallways
you can choose how to interconnect them.
Has the whole system of campaign.
And the cool thing is that you can create new adventures
it has all the tools for you to create your own campaign, your own adventure
even monsters if you have other miniatures.
The complexity of it: is a simple game, you sit and in 5 minutes you've learn it.
There are some special little rules,
like character special ability, a spell or another
but the coolest thing is you begin already playing out.
The luck factor of this game is median, why?
Despite using dice and dice are normally decisive
you have a lot of strategy, and how the players decide as a group
to face all the challenges of the game changes everything, right ?
A good group strategy offsets the dice bad luck.
Finally, speaking of its art. Sensational, speechless.
The miniatures are very well made,
the cards are very well done, amazing art direction.
Perfect quality, the tiles fit just right, no color difference.
- Impeccable. - Phenomenal.
So... GAMEPLAY!
During the journey to the city of Ayrin
You find the rubble of a caravan on fire yet.
One of the guards, wearing the arms
of Baron Gregory
is on the floor, wounded
right next to you.
- Ahh, my god... - "It's an ambush!"
He says
"that damned Ettin"
"is sending his subordinates directly to Ayrin"
"by the secret entrance"
"how did he find out?"
- Ahh, I get this Ettin, I catch him.
- Up ahead, you see the two heads silhouette of an Ettin.
"He said his name is Moller."
"You have to stop him!"
Goblins subordinates from Moller
are taking a secret trail to the castle
which is the city of Baron Gregory.
If too many goblins escape by the trail
Moller has won.
Your goal is to kill him before that happens.
- Haaa
but I catch him.
- So my friend...
What do you do?
- I attack! Hahahaa.
Well, the game Descent
is a game in which one player takes the role of the lord of darkness.
- The Overlord!
- And the other players play
the characters, the heroes.
I'm playing the role of the heroes here.
Since I am alone, I'll play with two. The "Leoric of the Book"
the mage guy
and Syndrael
the maiden elf warrior.
In the hero's turn, you can do two action
among various types of action.
I'm here in the corner... I will start with the mage.
I'll make a motion action, then look
I have 4 squares of movement, then I go
1, 2, 3, 4.
Well, I want to get this treasure, I wanna explore this treasure.
I cannot walk another square, but I can spend
1 stamina, I have up to 5 stamina
I can spend 1, ie get 1 fatigue icon
and hustle 1 extra step.
- It's good to remember
that if you end up with your stamina
you begin to take damage in place.
- In this case I have my second action
I only did the first, and my second action is to explore this treasure.
What do I do? Pick that little
treasure card.
Look, I got lucky... An item chest.
So what do I do? Discard it and get an item from this special deck.
Let's get this top one here.
Yeah, "Magic Staff".
Stays here at my items collection.
Got a Magic Staff.
Uhull, prepare yourself Overlord!
Brace yourself Overlord, your days are numbered!
- Look at the size of my Ettin's club here!
Now I switch to the other character, Syndrael.
- She goes kicking ***, right? - Warrior huh...
1, 2, 3, 4 first action spent.
She has no ranged weapon, so she will melee this beast
1, 2, 3... here, next "round" she attacks.
- When all the heroes have acted
Is the Overlord turn.
Well, I'll start my turn here
and I'll draw an extra little card here.
I have some unpleasant surprises for the heroes, hehehe.
The Overlord turn goes the same
by activating each type of monster. I have 3 goblins and 1 Ettin.
Then I choose the group of monsters I'm gonna use,
activate it and choose 2 action for each creature.
In this case, I go with the goblins first, they move 5 squares
like shown on its sheet here.
The difference is the red is a bit stronger
and has his attributes down here,
but the difference is not so big. So I'm gonna move them.
I'll do the move action twice with each of them.
- No! - Because I want to escape.
- Don't escape, coward.
But you walked on water?!
- In the water, I have to spend two movements for each square.
It's hard to move.
I can't get the fifth step with him so he'll stay right here.
I'm gonna use this little guy here
and take the opportunity to attack that damn mage.
- Come, come... - Let's go fight?
I'll explain how the combat works.
You have the attack dice.
That I'm using now.
and Pena has the defense dice.
I look here at my monster
which dice he has. He uses a blue and yellow.
It is a not very strong attack. That's ok, he's a goblin.
Ok then... How it works...
What are these signs?
The numbers on the dice mean the attack range
In this case, I have 3 squares of distance, enough to reach him.
The hearts mean how much damage I do. I'm causing 3 hit points here.
and the lightning means that I can use one special ability of my goblin.
In this case, as I already have range, I will not need the extra range to hit him.
I'm gonna use 1 extra damage. So he needs to absorb 4 hit points total.
- 4 hit points from a crap of a goblin! - Exactly.
I have only 8 of life, so you can understand the drama.
I have here in my sheet a gray die of armor.
A so so armor. I wonder what kind of armor a wizard robe could be... whatever.
I roll...
- I reduced nothing! - Hahahaha!
I took 4 damage, my life is at half.
- Now, time for my Ettin. I have just one, and it's the white
He uses the blue and red dice. That's the good one.
- Let it come, let it come.
- Booyah... Look here that prettiness!
Got 5 damage.
I ignore the numbers because it is a melee attack.
Unfortunately I got no lightning to give an extra damage here.
I'll roll my gray armor dice here. Let's see if something good happens.
Oh, defended 3. But look, I have a wooden shield.
I'll flip it and gain another shield icon. So I reduce 4 hit points.
- Damn! - Hahaha!
I'm that full warrior... warrioress... whatever.
- Hahahaha.
- Well, now it's my turn.
- No no, wait a second. I have a little unpleasant surprise for you.
I put in play "Frenzy"
My Ogre then... my Ettin in fact, will give an extra attack.
- How so?! - Yeah, that's here, oh.
- Before my turn? - Yes.
- Ok, give me your best.
- Is it your best? two. - Damn!
- I hit you with 2, but I got the lightning. - Tripped!
- The Ettin lightning gives 2 extra damage, so you have 4 to defend.
- I have armor. Bounces back. Look! - Here we go.
- HAHAHAHA! - I took 4 more.
Okay, I'm done.
Can one lose in the first "round"?
I think I'm not going to last long.
- Now you can go. - Okay.
- Well, in that case, there is little hope. - Hahahaha.
- At the beginning of my turn I refresh all flipped cards that were exhausted.
And now I'm gonna wield my "Iron Longsword"
It uses a BLUE and RED dice
and have an extra power too. Let's see.
I have 3 Hearts (3 damage) plus an extra power.
I can make the target to re-roll a defense die.
So come on, try your luck.
I guess you could re-roll that one there.
- This? - No, the other one.
- Ahhh. - So absorbed 3.
- Actually you absorbed everything. - I took no damage. Yahaha!
- As the second action, I'll give another attack.
Let's see...
- Uuuuuuhh. - That is a much more interesting roll.
4 hit points and 2 lightnings. As I only have one lightning, it's the same.
I have the ability to make you re-roll.
- Ok, my little two dice.
- Of course is that, right? - Who knows, c'mon.
- Ouch.
- He reduced 2, and took 2.
Now it's the turn of mage guy.
The spellboy will do the following...
1, 2, 3
I'm staying here to try to block this goblin.
No, I'll try to beat that runaway goblin there.
I remove my "arcane bolt" that was the weapon that I had
and now I equip my beauty "magic staff"
which inflicts much more damage, he uses a blue and red dice.
and I attack this runaway goblin.
- Well, I did... - Four.
- No, but there is the range issue. - Ahh yes.
- He is four squares away... 1, 2, 3, 4
and I don't reach 4.
But, maybe, I have targeted that one, who knows.
Yes, in fact, rethinking, I actually wanted to hit this guy.
- Hehehehe. - Of course I wanted to hit him.
- So I give 4 hit points to the goblin. - Ok, he just uses a gray die.
Take that little ***.
- Unfortunately this goblin only has 2 of life, as indicated by his record here.
So, it means that you
turn him into ashes.
Well, that is the game.
This is the mechanics. It keeps improving.
It's an adventure that you have to fulfill.
It's important that... hum...
I'll end it here, because I'm getting the *** beat out of me.
The characters, plus all the attributes they have
so here we have Strength
Knowledge
Willpower
and Perception
they are for performing checks during game
You have special abilities, each one has its own.
You can have a "heroic feat"
which is special power that you can use once per adventure.
When you cast, you must turn over the sheet and lose this heroic feat
that is a special ability.
And the game develops, it's very cool.
The Overlord also has a special mechanics.
What is that? I use these cards, as you could see
I keep drawing cards every turn
but the good thing is that every time the adventure ends
the heroes earn experience, the Overlord earn experience too
and he can buy new cards
that are stronger.
- Likewise the heroes, they have what?
If you complete the adventures, earn experience
you can also buy extra cards.
So the mage here can use explosive runes, ghost armor
and so on.
And you keep on evolving, in the campaign mode
improving in every adventure
and who won the previous adventure get a bonus to the next.
So the game does not end, you follows the campaign to the end.
That's it, right?
- Well guys, this is Descent.
As you saw, it's a very simple and very funny game.
That's it!
"Da mihi fermentum."
"Da mihi fermentum."
Descent is a milestone in this type of game called "dungeon crawling"
of exploring dungeons, killing monsters, that stuff
and this is the second edition
of Descent, first edition, uh.
And what have improved in this edition Sergio?
It got much simpler
they have cleaned the rules, ripped off many...
complex things
like character attributes. They left only four, very simple.
True.
Maybe the first edition was more influenced by what?
By the RPGs, which have more detailed things
of role playing and so on
what I found very positive in this edition is:
you want to play a game of this type, fast, and even with campaign option?
You sit, learn how to play, roll the dice and have fun.
Do you want something deeper? Play an RPG.
- Easier. - Exactly.
this here is the perfect solution for those who want a one shot adventure
or gather a group that has no patience for an RPG
but want to play something that lasts longer.
- With a character, do... - The campaigns and such.
Well, if you ever played games like "Hero Quest"
"Dragon Quest", or any of these "dungeon crawling", this one is
200% better.
Much better. Scores a 1000 more...
Throw away all of them and buy this!
What I really like about this game is that
both heroes and the Overlord...
- Have a goal. - Yes.
which makes all the difference, for those who used to be the master.
Man, this one is 10 times more fun
you really
play the game!
You don't just move the miniatures.
That is the biggest complaint, that you stay there just posing.
No one wants to be the Overlord. But not this game.
In Descent you have good options,
strategies that you can achieve.
- Exactly. - It's really good.
On the other hand, perhaps a down of it is that...
- It comes with only one campaign. - Yes.
You can create new adventures,
the campaign has multiple possibilities
but still...
- It's limited. - It's just one campaign.
If you want more, you have to buy an expansion.
There is already one expansion of the second edition
available for purchase.
But something really cool that was release,
is an internet app for you to assemble your own adventure and campaign.
All digital. You have all the "tiles",
you build the way you want,
design the adventure and everything.
And the cool thing is that you can also share it in a community.
You can download new quests for you to play.
Offer quests for other people play.
Fantastic.
Very cool.
Let's do the...bounce... bounce back.
Not bounce back... quick game ..
Heheheh , quick game.
Pros and cons!
Pros...
The game is...
joyful, very engaging
fast
perfect for those who like the style,
a must have!
Cons is:
limited scenarios
and an expensive game.
also a specific profile type,
you have to like this kind of game.
Let's go to the final considerations...
- Scores actually. - Actually scores.
How much do you give?
Look, I give 4 dice because I'm very fan of this game.
It's a great option when you're bored,
and all you want is to explore dungeons.
I'm gonna...
debut the maximum score in our channel
no game won the highest score by anyone.
I'll give 6 because...
"Dungeon crawling" is my favorite style,
and this game is outstanding.
Off the charts.
To finish, do not forget. Now they're down here...
It's all down here, subscribe, like, share, complain
