Founded by William the Conqueror, The Tower of London is one of the most famous
fortresses. The Tower had many uses. It was a prison, and a place of execution. Only the
most important people were executed (by axe) inside the Tower of London. Among these we
can find: Anne Boleyn, Queen of England and wife of Henry VIII, Jane Boleyn, her sister
Catherine Howard, Queen of England and wife of Henry VIII and Lady Jane Grey. The Tower of
London has a collection of ravens, property of the the Royal family. They are taken care
of by the Beefeaters that still protect the tower to this day. The ravens' feathers are
kept short so they cannot fly away. This is because a legend says that if the ravens leave
the Tower, the Tower and the Kingdom will fall. Today, the Crown Jewels are kept there.
There is also a museum of armour.
