Is it good to run barefoot on a treadmill? I’ve heard that it is healthier for your
feet and sure to ruin your knees.
Going barefoot sounds nice because you aren’t shoehorning your feet into dress shoes. But
you should be wearing comfortable running shoes on the treadmill.
If I go barefoot, my feet get exposure to more air, cooling them off.
Or they get hot and sweaty and you slip on the treadmill.
Is it unhealthy to run barefoot?
It is safer to run barefoot on a treadmill than outdoors. There’s no broken glass,
sharp rocks or dog poop to step on.
I’ve heard people say that running barefoot on a treadmill hurt their feet and ankles.
You can get friction blisters from the treadmill if you aren’t taking short, light steps.
That totally alters my running style.
So does running barefoot outside.
Running barefoot means my feet can adjust to the terrain.
Alter the incline and angle of the treadmill so that running on it doesn’t overstress
particular joints.
Or switch to running with shoes to alter muscle group use, since running barefoot and in shoes
uses different muscles. Is there anyone who should avoid barefoot running?
Diabetics need to wear shoes, treadmill or no. They can’t detect foot injuries, while
their blisters take forever to heal.
I heard that running barefoot increases your risk of pulled muscles.
Yes, because there’s no shock absorber except those in the feet themselves. You’re at
greater risk for stress fractures, too.
Body builders can get that when they drop a barbell on their foot.
Uh, no, more like working out too hard too long. Oh, and running on the treadmill creates
the same burn risk as running on hot pavement.
The treadmill is in an air conditioned room. That’s why it is so lovely.
Until it gets hot from extended use, burning your feet.
At least you aren’t warning me that it is the home equivalent of standing barefoot on
an escalator, where it could rip off my toes or something.
Actually, treadmills do pose that risk.
This is sounding too much like a horror movie. I’m wearing shoes on the treadmill.
