Believe it or not, that is a long drawn out
process with
classes and certifications and training
it's taken us a little but we are there so all of our
dispatchers are now
medical certified dispatchers
which means that
if someone is sick or needing treatment
right away
if it's something that can be handled by dispatch
they will start the process
on how to care for that patient immediately
We'll also give them
instructions on
how to prepare the scene
for first responders or
the ambulance when they arrive so
this has the ability to
actually save lives
One of the reasons I wanted to
get them started at this was that I know that
we have a lot of choking throughout not Hendry county, but through out the country
It's easy to choke when you're eating but
people don't know what to do
and the thing is when you're brain is suffering for a lack of oxygen
for four minutes
it dies, or starts to die.
And four minutes is not a long time.
So now, we have the ability for dispatch to give that person who's there
with them life saving techniques on how to save them from choking.
So that's just a prime example.
We're real proud of that fact and proud of our dispatchers
and Margie who's the
supervisor in dispatch she's done a lot
in preparing this and all the girls have worked their rear ends off to
make this happen
and we're very proud of them, so
The very first card you turn to is the all callers interrogation
and these seven questions tell you where to go next,
where's the patient
what's the telephone number, what's the problem,
what's her name, standard questions you ask on any 911 call.
is the patient conscious, are they able to talk
If yes, you want to know their age
their chief complaint and then you can turn to
the appropriate card, if they're not
then you want to know if they're breathing
anyone of these that say no that triggers
paging the medics and getting them
going right away while you continue doing this.
