The most important thing in this whole project and to me is my family.
We got involved in the Energy Upgrade California program indirectly,
so the whole process started with some health issues that my wife is experiencing.
She was having, it seemed like they were chronic sinus infections.
Realized that we had just an horribly inefficient and problematic air-conditioning system.
We moved here in December and the house was cold,
and suddenly the air would turn on and then it would just blast hot air throughout the house,
and the house would get too hot, and then the air would turn off
and after 15 minutes, the house was cold again.
And I went around putting thermometers in different corners of the house
and I tell you there were corners where the house was 55 degrees,
even though the thermostat said 70.
Maybe you have a room that's too hot or a room that's too cold,
or you suffer from allergies and you want to reduce dust.
When you have an inefficient home energy system, your home is less comfortable and
it could be costing you money.
And while there is a few areas you may know of that can help improve your home's efficiency,
there are things you may not know about that can make a big difference.
Energy Upgrade California takes a "Whole House Approach," rewarding you for making
multiple upgrades that work together to improve your home's efficiency.
And the greater the improvement, the greater the potential savings and incentives.
At EnergyUpgradeCA.org, you can find a participating contractor in your area
who is specially trained to identify energy leaks in your home with a Whole House Assessment.
They'll measure your home's energy efficiency and help find the upgrades that can save you the most.
One of the things that I didn't expect from this is that my house is so comfortable now.
Usually the temperature doesn't drop below 68 and it doesn't go above 74,
because the house is just so well insulated now.
For us, a Whole House Assessment included
looking at it from top-to-bottom, everything from the insulation in the attic to the
way that the floor was sealed under the raised floor portion of the house.
But it's really taking a look at everything in your house and determining
how it can possibly be made more efficient.
Find out more about the two upgrade packages can learn about the incentives
in your area in the next video.
