>> What we're doing today is doing a seismic evaluation
of portable wine barrel storage systems.
As you can see, there's a four-high stack behind me.
This stack is prone to failure, relatively, under short loading situations.
The table is a single-degree-of-freedom system and it's able to simulate earthquake records
that could have been measured from any point in California or anywhere in the world.
The premise of the study is to develop a computer model
that can accurately predict the failure of the stacks when subjected to seismic situations.
>> What we're trying to do is come up with, first, an analytical model
to characterize the problem at hand and then investigate possible solutions.
There is a solution and hopefully myself and my students will find it
over the course of the next year.
