(Fredy) Capital One was actually far from the list of companies that I was looking for.
One day they invited me for some free sushi. I got to meet some of the junior
associates and realized that they were bright people that were really happy with
where they were in life and decided that I would really fit into that culture. I was
actually only considering engineering type opportunities. This one was very different
in that it was in finance as opposed to engineering.
(Maria) The US card business does a very good job of innovating in the market and
Capital One, I think, everything is around consensus. Listening to others, bringing in
different perspective, bringing a team together, is one of our most important core values.
(Ben) We try and get the best out of everybody. We try to find those passions. We try
to bring out the best in all of our associates.
That means listening, knowing what somebody is capable of, what someone has
a real passion about, and then giving them the ability to tap into that passion.
To unleash their greatness is a big part of what allows me, as a leader, to get the most out
of the team and for individual associates, myself included, to feel connected to the
work, to feel like I'm contributing, and really to drive big results.
(Steven) We went from, "I've never heard of them," when I first interviewed with
Capital One to Fortune 500, I think, in my first five years here, and then Fortune 200
shortly after that. When you are going that fast and you are trying to always be better
and do better, you need people that can add value. There is really no time to not value
someone’s input.
(Fredy) It's really great being one of the top three companies that issues credit cards
in the United States. It’s a very competitive job. It’s very analytical, very intellectually
stimulating, and it’s great to be at a company that’s this big, with this many resources,
that still feels like a smaller company and has that entrepreneurial vibe to it. Capital One
started as a credit card company, that’s definitely still our main line of business, and
it's great to be working in that organization. I get to really drive the engine that runs
Capital One, and I’m very excited about it.
