This video will show you what to do if your printer does not pick up or feed paper from
the input tray, or an “out of paper” message displays on your computer or your printer
when you do have paper loaded. Sometimes, the problem can be fixed just by
doing a reset. First, make sure the printer is powered on.
If it is off, press the Power button to turn on the printer.
Next, turn to the back of the printer. Without turning the printer off, remove the
power cord from the back. Wait 30 seconds. It is important to wait the
full 30 seconds for this type of reset. Reconnect the power cord.
If the printer does not turn on automatically, turn back to the front and press the Power
button to turn it on. Load paper into the input tray. Adjust the
guides so that they are snug against the paper. Let’s try printing something to see if the
issue is resolved. In this situation, the best way to print a page is to copy something
from the scanner glass.
First, find a piece of paper with words on it.
Lift the scanner lid and
place the paper print-side down on the scanner glass.
Close the scanner lid. On the printer control panel, press the button
next to Copy, then press the button next to Black Copy,
then press the button next to Actual Size, and then press OK to start the copy.
If the copy prints successfully, the issue is resolved, if the copy does not print, go
on to the next step. Often the condition of the paper you’re
using can cause paper not to be fed into the printer.
Remove the paper from the input tray. Remove any damaged paper you find.
Make sure that there are at least 10 sheets of plain white paper but no more than 25 sheets
of paper in the paper stack. The printer may hold more sheets of paper, but this number
of pages is best for testing. Make sure all the paper is the same size and
type; then tap it on a flat surface to get the edges perfectly aligned.
Finally, load the paper and adjust the guides so they’re snug against the stack.
Next, let’s try making a copy again to see if this last step fixed the printer.
If the copy prints successfully, the issue is resolved. If the copy does not print, go
on to the next step. Printer rollers get dirty from paper dust,
ink, and oil from your fingers. In this step, we’ll clean the rollers. There is an automated
utility built into the driver of your printer that will automatically clean the paper feed
roller. 1. Click the Windows (or Start) button and
then Click Devices and Printers. 2. Locate the C4700 series printer icon and
then Click it once to select it. 3. Right Click the C4700 series printer icon
and then Click Printing Preferences. 4. Click the Features tab and then click the
Printer Services button. 5. On the Printer Services window click the
Paper Feed Cleaning button to start the utility. 6. Remove any paper from the paper tray of
the printer and then click OK to start the process.
7. This Paper Feed Cleaning process could take 15 minutes to complete.
Load paper into the input tray. Adjust the guides so that they are snug against the paper.
Next, let’s try making a copy again to see if this last step fixed the printer.
If the copy prints successfully, the issue is resolved. If the copy does not print, go
on to the next step. Next, we’ll make sure the paper settings
in the print driver match the settings for the paper you are trying to use.
On your computer, Open a document in the program you’re printing
from.
Click File. Click Print.
Click Properties. When the Properties dialog box opens,
Click the Features tab. Find the “Paper Size” drop-down menu and
choose the appropriate paper size. Find the “Paper Type” drop-down menu and
choose the appropriate paper type. Click OK.
Click OK again to print the document. If the document prints successfully, the issue
is resolved. If the document does not print, go on to the next step.
If you’ve tried everything described in this video and you still have a problem, your
printer likely needs some type of service. Contact HP to find out what the support options
are for your printer. Your options for service may vary depending on how long you’ve owned
the printer and what country you live in.
